The idea for this book came to R.J. Palacio after she saw a child with a craniofacial deformity.

We will start reading this book on Monday, May 6th.

During snack time, students have a chance to refuel and recharge. We give them a quick 5-minute break to enjoy a healthy snack. Please send your student a tasty, nutritious snack to keep their energy up and their minds ready to learn.

• Heat Guidelines:

  • 94 degrees or heat index above 99: 25 minutes max outside.

  • Above 100 degrees or heat index above 105: No outdoor activities.

• Cold Guidelines:

  • Below 32 degrees or wind chill below 30: 25 minutes max outside.

  • Temps below 20 degrees: No outdoor activities.

Elementary students in grades 2-5 may possess telecommunication devices; however, these devices are only to be used for instructional purposes under the direction of a teacher. These devices should be turned off and not visible at all other times during the school day on school property, including on school transportation.

Please remind your child of the risks involved in bringing toys to school—loss, theft, or damage.

On May 14th, get ready to cheer because we're off to Reckling Park to watch Rice Baseball vs. Texas Southern! Fee to attend is $10.00.

Please email your students teacher a baby picture of your student no later than Friday, May 10th. 

Additionally, we are in the process of finalizing all the details for the ceremony. At this time, the 5th Grade Ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 23rd, in the morning. Once all arrangements are settled, we will provide you with more information.

5^th Grade Ceremony: Our students will take center stage to receive their end-of-year certificates and celebrate their incredible accomplishments from this academic year. This ceremony is a momentous occasion where we honor their hard work, dedication, and growth throughout their time in 5th grade. While we will not announce individual students' final promotion or placement statuses during the ceremony, rest assured that this information will be included in their final report cards.

• Date: Thursday, May 23rd

• Time: 9:00 am to 10:30 am

• Location: West Memorial Elementary School Gym

• Guests: Each student may bring up to 4 guests.

• Check-In: To help expedite the check-in process on the day of the ceremony, we encourage you to pre-register by clicking this link: https://tinyurl.com/WME5thGrade24.

• Dress Code: Since the ceremony falls during the school day, we kindly request that students come dressed in their "Sunday best." If they plan to stay at school after the ceremony, we recommend they bring a change of clothes. Please note that they are not permitted to wear a cap and gown to the ceremony, as this tradition is reserved for their high school graduation.

• Dismissal: Students will be dismissed by 12:45 pm on Thursday, May 23rd, as it is an early dismissal day.

• Early Check-Out: Following the clap-out, you'll have the chance to check out your student early upon our return to the classroom. If you're checking your students out early, please know that they will not miss any further celebrations.

  
  

After school ends on Thursday, May 23^rd we invite students and parents to continue the fun at Main Event Katy! 

5^th Grade Main Event Celebration: An afternoon filled with fun and making memories as students bid farewell to their elementary school journey! Students will get to play and enjoy a variety of games. Plus, they'll be treated to delicious pizza and a refreshing drink.

• Date: Thursday, May 23rd

• Time: 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm

• Location: Main Event Katy - 24401 Katy Fwy., Katy, TX 77494

• Important Details:

  • Bowling (shoes provided) 🎳

  • Laser Tag (48" height requirement)🔫

  • Pizza 🍕 (2 slices per student), served at 3:00 pm

  • All students must be picked up by 6 PM by a parent or designated adult. If students are staying later, they must be signed out by a parent in person.

  • Students who exhibit disciplinary behavior will be asked to leave.

• Main Event will not be shutting down for our celebration and will remain open during their normal business hours for customers. Your student is your responsibility during the event.

• This is not a drop-and-go event. Parents are expected to stay with their students and celebrate everything they've accomplished this year.

• Siblings will not be allowed to attend the Main Event party. This celebration is exclusively for West Memorial Elementary 5th-grade students and their parents.

Thank you for your attention to these details, and we look forward to celebrating this milestone with you and your child. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to your student's teacher.

Sessions will last approximately two hours and should be attended by both the parent and the student. While students are engaged in hands-on skill development activities, parents will attend an informative session on supporting their students through the transition to junior high advanced academics.

KAP Success Camp is open to all incoming 6th graders who have selected at least one KAP course for the 2024-2025 school year.

The event will take place at Memorial Parkway Junior High (21203 Highland Knolls, Katy, TX 77450) on the following dates and times:
