Reproductive Process

Egg and sperm meet together. Sperm then fertilizes the egg so it will become a zygote. Then zygote will divide and over time will become an embryo

Germinal Stage

Occurring from conception to 2 weeks (implantation)

Zygote is rapidly diving. Cells for the placenta, umbilical cord and amniotic fluid are developing to form the embryo. Then it will attach to the uterus lining and the embryonic stage will begin.

Embryonic Stage

Growing at a rapid pace and the organ system is developing.

Fetal Stage

Week 9- Birth

Brain is growing at a rapid pace and more parts of the body are developing.

Stage 1 of Labor

Early Labor- The cervix will start to thin out and open wider. Contractions will also start to begin and get stronger over time. They will last for 30 to 60 seconds and will happen every 5 to 20 minutes.

Active Labor- Contractions have now gotten longer and became stronger. They will also be more closer together. The cervix will also be more dilated and the fetus moves into the birth canal.

Stage 2 and 3 of Labor

Stage 2- Cervix is 10 centimeters and the woman is being to push so that the baby moves through the birth canal. Now the baby's head is starting to show and the doctor helps guide the baby out.

Stage 3- The umbilical cord has been cut. 5 to 10 minutes after the baby has already been delivered contractions start to happen again. The placenta will be delivered in less then 30 minutes.

Neonatal Stage

Eating- being fed on demand

Sleeping for 2-3 hours at a time and about 16 hours a day. Waking up when they are hungry.

Developmental Skills- Tracks and fallows people when they are talking or walking away. Mostly focusing of faces and can mimic face expressions.

Infancy

Social and Emotional Development- Recognizing people that they see on a regular basis. Having strong attachments to people and things. Also showing emotions when they feel happy, angry, and sad.

Physical Development- Growth in height and weight. Being able to sit up, crawl, and maybe even showing signs of walking.

Cognitive Development- Saying their first words and babbling. The brain is developing at a fast rate during this stage.

Toddler

Social and Emotional Development- The child starts to become more independent. This is the stage where the "terrible twos" start beginning.

Physical Development- Start running and walking without assistance. Improvement is being made on fine motor skills. Being able to work with crayons, markers and other small objects.

Cognitive Development- Starting to form sentences. Learning how to say more words and use them correctly. Also playing pretend.
