Many of the parents and students have said that "the teacher is nice but she doesn't understand me and where I come from ethnically". Much of the research has focused on the these factors as it relates to students, with only some of the research analyzing the impact of teacher factors, in particular teacher ethnicity. With the push for cultural competence for teachers and the focus on closing the achievement gap for students, it is imperative we determine the factors impacting student achievement for these students. Dashana (2019) indicates there is not statistical significant difference in student achievement based on teacher ethnicity for high school students. On the other hand, Redding (2019) indicated that there is a significant difference in academic achievement for students, based on the teacher's ethnicity.
