Macbeth is first afraid of killing Duncan, because he is afraid that he will fail. Then he begins to become more comfortable with it once he has actually done it. He experiences fear when he sees a floating dagger in front of him, as well as when he hears noises in the night. His fear is mixed with guilt and panic. The quote shows how Macbeth conquered his fears of murdering someone by going through with it, however, he is conflicted with his emotions which I think is depicted well by the painting.
