This is the main component within a computer based system. It does all the processes for the system and tells each piece of hardware and software what to do. Speeds range from 1.0 Ghz to 4.0 Ghz. The speed and efficiently of the CPU is down to the number of cores. Depending on what the system is/ want it to do, you can range between 2 and 32 cores.

For PC's, the most common makers are Intel and AMD, for mobile devices there is Snapdragon and Samsung own Processors plus many others.

However, unlike ROM or the hard drive, RAM is a volatile memory and requires power to keep the data accessible.
