In the beginning of the year, I used little to no shading for my first piece (the glove and pond). However, as the year progressed, I began to shade along the outsides to imitate depth. Then, at the end of the year my baby face, was shaded using lights, darks, and crosshatching. Throughout the year, I learned that making dark lines is not the way to go. In the beginning I would push my pencil into the page which was not only hard to change, but also looked stiff and forced. I also learned that adding more layers to oil pastel is helpful. The more layers there are the easier it is to blend. If I were to pursue art in the future I would be sure to keep in mind that nothing is fatal. Mistakes happen, and I don’t have control of everything, but that is not a bad thing. I love being outside in nature, so I think I would like to use objects in nature as a subject. For example, wild flowers, trees, or birds.
