WELFARE & SOCIAL INCLUSION - RELATIONSHIP WITH CIVIC SOLIDARITY.

Myth of the welfare queen is a negative stereotype that emerged in the United States during the late 20th century. It involves the portrayal of individuals, often African American women, as abusing the welfare system to maintain a luxurious lifestyle, through welfare cheuqes funded by taxpayers. This connects to last weeks discussion of dependancy and the negative stereotype that surrounds social security nets. Society is negligent to the situation minorities, specifically women of colour are put in. They are framed as "lazy", yet they are put in a different position than the average wealthy white man.

ROLE OF MILITARY AND NEOLIBERAL SOCIAL PROJECT

As we know, Neoliberalism encourages minimal government spending. However, in order to create a well functioning and successful military force, government spending is required. I believe this creates a tension between the two ideas as one is reliant on the other to be successful.

Furthermore, the military is built off of patriarchal beliefs, that men are more valuable than woman. Which although is not obvious in neoliberalism, the project provides impression of gender inequalities through privatization, limited government spending and increase of free markets.

ANTI STATE STATE

Both the "anti-state state" concept and neoliberalism prioritize reducing the government's role, particularly in economics. Neoliberalism advocates for free markets, deregulation, and limited state intervention to boost economic efficiency and growth. The "anti-state state" idea aligns by emphasizing a reduced state presence, though it doesn't seek complete elimination. Both aim to limit the state's influence, especially in economic affairs, reflecting shared desires for lesser governmental involvement. Their focus on minimizing state control forms a key connection between these ideologies. Specifically detrimental to visible minorities and women.

"Work Won't Love You Back" by Sarah Jaffe delves into the modern workforce's dynamics. Explaining how in today's society passion and devotion to one's job often leads to exploitation, exhaustion, and isolation. Jaffe examines various industries, highlighting how the expectation of finding fulfillment through work can result in burnout and systemic issues. Jaffe advocates for a reevaluation of our relationship with work and urges for changes that prioritize worker well-being and fair treatment. As society forces the idea of anti human relationships due to the emphasize we place on work.

I believe a world beyond neoliberalism would involve a shift towards more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable economic and social systems. Most importantly I believe there will be an increase in Social Safety Nets meaning increased access to healthcare, education, housing, and basic needs for all individuals regardless of their socioeconomic status. This could include universal healthcare, affordable housing programs, and free or subsidized education.
