For Canada, the Total dependency load is 35.1%. However, a higher percentage of Canada's dependency load comes from the older population. For example, the percentage of dependent old people in Canada is 20%, but the percentage of dependent old people in Canada is only 15.1%. For Ghana, the dependency load is relatively the same, but where Ghana differs is that most of its dependency load comes from young kids. The percentage of youth dependency is 35.9 percent of the total population of the country, while the percentage of elderly dependency is only 3.1 percent. Thus, most of the dependency load from Ghana comes from the youth population. Finally, Italy's dependency load is 36.6% of the population which is relatively the same as the other two countries. However, just like Canada, a larger portion of the dependency load comes from the older population as 24.4% of the population is of retirement age, while only 12.2% of the population are kids. This differs vastly from countries like Ghana whose dependency load is mostly made up of kids.

From the data of how many older people there are in each country, we can infer that people in Canada and Italy have longer lives on average. This is because a larger percentage of the population is in the 75 years + range compared to other countries. For example, 8.9% of Canada’s The population is in this age group and 12.7% of Italy's population is of age 75 or older. Ghana on the other hand is very different as those

aged 75% years or older only make up 1.2% of the population in the country. This means that not only might Ghana have much more young people than the other two countries, but it could also mean that not as many people reach 75 years old in Ghana, meaning that the life expectancy is probably lower.

If we analyze Canada and Italy, we will notice that they are more developed than Ghana. One reason why more economic development may contribute to lower birth rates may be because the priorities of people who live in developed countries are different from the priorities of those who live in poorer countries, as people in poorer countries usually focus on having kids, while people in developed countries have more opportunities to do other things, and are more focused on their own lives and careers. If we look at Ghana which is not as rich as Canada and Italy, we will see that it has a much higher birth rate, and a younger age on average.

Why do we care?

I think this is an important thing to care about because the lower birth rate in developed countries can contribute to a declining population overtime. For example, Belgium is a developed country that has a declining population, and when this happens to a country, it can cause the country to go extinct very slowly if nothing is done, and the shrinking population will eventually hurt the economy. This is the biggest reason why the birth rate is important, as it will judge whether a country will continue to grow or not. The dependancy load is also an important thing to know because if there are more people who are dependant, it will cause a higher strain on the working age population, which will make it harder for them to survive in the country.
