Everyone carries a set of narratives that are an extension of our general schema. To help shift their mindset, dependent learners have to develop their own individual counternarratives.
Have them remember what it felt like to “get good” at their skill or body of knowledge. Ask them to bring this same effort to learning in the classroom.
We must provide students with the opportunity to become learners. This song reflects being proud of rich cultural history and wanting to share that with others. Rather than focusing on negativity, we should learn and understand social inequalities through a vision of positivity and change.
