2016-2017 have been huge learning experiences to say the least. Early on in second semester, we learned about the four cardinal virtues, fortitude, prudence, justice, and temperance. I believe that my strongest virtue going into freshman year was my value towards justice. Having justice as a value means that one shows fairness towards other. Having respect and open-mindedness is something I take great pride in because of the lack of justice our society has today. However, I also reflected on how I needed to strengthen my value of fortitude. Having fortitude means to have courage. Starting high school is all about trying and experiencing new things. It's a scary thing to be immersed into a totally new environment. I wanted to be outgoing and try new things, but also keep in mind my values that I have instilled in myself. Having fortitude is all a balance. I needed to have courage to try new things, but also to have courage to say no to things that I do not agree with. Temperance is having self-control. Temperance is something I definitely learned how to deal with. I told myself that going into high school I would have a 4.0 GPA and be social all at the same time. I soon learned that I needed to learn self-control. I needed to balance out my social and academic life. It is definitely a process that I am still trying to perfect. It's hard because there's this fear of "missing out" on activities and the fear of failure in academics. All in all, if someone asked me "How do I be?" I'd say that to "be" is to find balance in your life.
