My understanding of The American Dream is that it starts when you want it too. You need to figure out what you want to do and set goals to achieve that. The American dream gives people the availability to do whatever they want to become. In order to get there though you must not give up or get set back. No matter the hardships its possible.

American Dream Song

Lee Greenwood wrote Proud to be an American in 1984 with intentions to get people to feel the same way about America as he did.The reason I picked this song is because there are a few lines from this song that support my thesis of the American dream. First one is, "I'm proud to be an American where at least i know i'm free." This lyrics supports my thesis because freedom is everything in the american dream its what makes the American dream so special. The next one is "I'll proudly stand up next to you and defend her still today." When he says her he is referring to America, and without american people wouldn't be able to live there American dream. The last one is "The flag still stands for freedom and they cant take that away." This means that they cant take there freedom away so therefore they wouldn't be able to take the American dream away because freedom is what makes the American Dream so Amazing.

The person I chose to interview was my father Toby Andruskiewicz. When I asked him what the American Dream means to him he said that you need to work hard and you'll be rewarded in return. When he was younger he wanted to be an ex-ray technician but didn't quite meet his goals. Instead he became a respiratory therapist which he says he enjoys a lot. When I asked my dad how to purse and make your dream come true he told me to make goals so that I can accomplish my dream. The final pieced of advice he gave to me was to work hard and get good education because schooling is needed for really good jobs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C48aGtPIuZo

If you listen closely you can see that many of the people they interview all say the same thing. They say that they believe in the American dream but they have to work for it. The news station said that when they looked at statistics that not even half of the people believe they have achieve the American dream. This supports my thesis because I feel that the American Dream is alive and well but people do have to work for it. Which is exactly what the people in the video are saying.

The author of this article is Samual. J Abrams. He mentions lots of interesting facts about how the American Dream is alive and well. For example he says "Opportunities to achieve material success and social mobility through hard, honest work — which many people, including me, have assumed to be the core idea of the American dream.'' I really like this quote because it emphasizes the fact that that have to put in work to accomplish it. Another example is "When Americans were asked what makes the American dream a reality, they did not select as essential factors becoming wealthy, owning a home or having a successful career. Instead, 85 percent indicated that “to have freedom of choice in how to live” was essential to achieving the American dream." I like this one because it shows how freedom of being able to accomplish things comes a long way in the American Dream.

Reference from The Distance Between Us.

In the distance between us written by Reyna Grande. She says in chapter 24, "I returned to my fathers side because I felt obligated to do so. The spring semester at PCC had ended, graduation had passed, and at the end of summer, I would be heading north to UC Santa Cruz, the school I had chosen based on Diana's recommendation." I think this is such a powerful quote and defends my thesis completely. First off she wasn't even born in the Us and she now has two different colleges to go to. That is such ann amazing thing for an ex immigrant to work her way all the way up to the top. This is what the American Dream is about hard work and dedication it doesn't matter who you are it matters what you do.
