In this chapter we can see Gatsby's obsession with trying to recreate and rekindle his relationship with Daisy despite the passing of time and how things have changed. His idolizing memories of their past love lead him on to hope too much, leaving him disappointed. At the end of the chapter Nick finds Gatsby dead in his pool and can't help but think how his last thoughts must have been over the emptiness and lack of meaning in his life without Daisy.

In this chapter, Gatsby tries to get Daisy back, after the fight with Tom. Despite everything that has happened between them, and all of the time that has past, Gatsby is still convinced that Daisy is still in love with him, just has much as he is with her. Which doesn't happen due to him being killed after the killing of Myrtle. This chapter shows that achieving the American Dream is unreachable, due to it being difficult to maintain it. Gatsby had the dream he was looking for, but was missing the love of his life, and ended up dying before is goal was completely achieved. (pg 160-162)
