It caused an awful lot of harm and trauma to indigenous communities, and the effects of it are possibly still being delt with today. In 1901, Prince Edward Island became the first province to impose prohibition. Prohibition is historically significant by the crime rate increasing. It helped out with things like social issues like domestic violence, and child abandonment which was caused because of the alcohol. Starting prohibition really helped out with the public health and safety concerns, led to better alcohol control and rise of organised crime. It is important to understand the importance of this historical significance with Black students being banned from attending Queens medical school. It plays a big part in racial injustice and the ongoing struggle for equality. The banning of black students going to queens university is historically significant because it shows how exclusionary institutions like Queens university were towards black students.
