A Wonder Wall is a great space to “park” questions, but it is only great if children know that there is a set time and procedure for when those questions will be reviewed. Perhaps you pick 1-2 questions to answer during morning circle, or 2-3 questions to answer during your next virtual meeting. Or, perhaps you allow students time to explore and help each other answer questions generated from this wall.

Create a consistent system that works for you and your class, and make it a regular part of the routine so that questions are a vehicle for, not a distraction from, learning.

I'm wondering what this would look like for first graders. Most first graders are just learning to read so all text would not be accessible for all students. How would I represent questions with pictures? Maybe a recording of questions?

I like the idea of pictures posted on a wonder wall; students could post ideas and then we could discuss when we meet synchronously. I teach k-2 reading intervention, so I might post the picture and then record their ideas (for the youngest students) when we meet.

I am also wondering about increasing student ownership by having them provide the provocation, whether that be a video, photo, or quote that goes with a particular topic.
