However, a greater understanding of the self is more than the physical; it can be "used as a basis but it requires further interaction and evolves as new experiences, beliefs and memories are added," (Burton 2007). Likewise the Caribbean identity has been difficult to define due to the varying aspects it entails such as customs, religion, history, styles and values. 
As one grows older, they may be faced with questions as to who they are and where will life take them? All over the world people are questioning and seeking answers concerning their identity. Headlines of local newspapers are seen from time to time addressing issues of identity The ideal way to find answers to these questions is to revisit the past, assess the present and plan the future. The past sets a foundation as to what aspects of life were built and in what ways. The present is a manifestation of the past. The future is a combination of the past and present features all drawn on a map as a guide to where one intends to be or go. 
Born and raised in the tiny village of Sea View Farm, Antigua, is a young woman searching for her identity. From whence did I come? What has shaped who I am today? Where do I go from here? With those questions in mind, one is left to search for answers in the past to help make connections that led to this point and to determine what are the steps forward.
