This leads me to wonder, what percentage of people who support BLM do not truly care?

It made me think that "acknowledgement" is a new ideal that has emerged as our society progresses and becomes more open to past, acknowledging our faults and the wrong that our country has done is the first step to overcoming racism and racist beliefs/ideologies, many that we aren't even aware of.

The author wrote that Jack Johnson became an avatar for the black community, "If Johnson talked slick to White men, saying whatever he wanted, all Black people got away with a verbal jab or two (in their mind)."

Adelle mentioned the terms that are used to represent people of different ethnic groups, one of which being minority and how that shows our past of racism today. This also connects to the colors that are used to describe different ethnicities and how those colors create this symbolism that African Americans are evil and caucasians are good. It makes me wonder if we have learned from our past as these terms and phrases still show the racism still engrained in our society. I think racism has been a constant characteristic in our nation despite our freedoms. Racism has not gone away as Morgan said but it has evolved to become societal issue.

If you look at HBCs they were able to educate African American students to a higher level. Another example of the importance of knowledge is the Haitian Revolution and how it empowered slaves since they were aware of its existence. Adelle mentioned JFK and how his expressed support for the Africa America community lead to his demise. It also shows the pressure put upon politicans to appeal to everyone, even those who have views that harm others. It makes me wonder if society and our own biases resulted the biases present in the government since we hold them to a certain expectation of sticking with the majority

The Black Power Movement, Civil Rights Movement, and other protests throughout history have made it so that the American ideals of equality, justice, democracy, etc, that were not originally being realized become a reality through their antiracist and proactive efforts.

I wouldn't say my thinking has necessarily shifted, but rather ideas that I have thought about have been affirmed by our discussion. It has made me realize how strong and just how truthful certain ideas are. For example, I've always known racism passes down through generations, but our discussion of it's impression on others in several different aspects opened my eyes to just how far reaching racism is, even to young, innocent children.

The so called "American" ideals were demonstrated through acts of rebellion from African Americans, even small ones such as the Greensboro sit in and Frederick Douglas. Connecting back to what Anna said these people are challenging the framework of what the stereotypical African American is by being education and resilient. And even today we are we are seeing a continuation of that movement through BLM but it begs the question of the effectiveness of this approach since it has not created much reform in our legal system for African Americans
