The simple answer is for pleasure. But what exactly is the nature of that pleasure? Reading removes me from the structure of my life, from the routine, the sequential habits of my day-to-day living. I enter instead another time zone. The plot, characters and setting occupy  and entertain me, and while I read I inhabit the others’ reality. The pleasure therefore is derived from escaping my own small, limited and often repetitive life and entering an exotic elsewhere.

I like to think of books as walls of fantasy you can build up on. You get to read over and over and the books build up and protect you from the reality that is earth. You can think of books that make you see depression as a real hurting cause and how hard it would be to live with, or a book on reincarnation and how easy it is for someone to deceive you. Our human minds are always growing and needing more information, and books are an endless supply of knowledge that is given to us normally, we get that extent of it. Yes, you might night like some books, but when you find that one book. The perfect book. You know when you find it. You know when you need it, and when to think about the things it's talking about. Books give us a calm environment to show us how the world is in a different person point of view. What it's like through a disabled persons view, What it's like through a person with anxiety's view. You can create an entire world that's protecting you with ways to know what others think of the world. Sadly, books will finish. Books can be very long, but still, they all end. No matter how much you love the book, it ends, and you're pulled back to reality. Reality is always waiting for you even when you pick up a new book. There's no escaping endless life, but books spice it up. It's much easier to have normal dinner, but when you add new flavors and spices it's much better. That's what reading in life is like.
