Now onto the pages i read. there is a local festival held every year where they race cows and make bets and sell their yearly crops. an old grandmother of the town has many cows and has won the race for the past decade. one of the brothers who is very greedy decides to make a scam where he convinced everyone that the grandmother was way to old to race cows anymore and to bet on a mystery cow. this mystery cow in question which no one has seen is one of the other brothers in a costume. the grandmothers "boyfriend" sees this scam and bets everything on the Grandmother. when the race starts the mystery cow stayed in the lead until they reached the woods where nobody could see. the mystery cow tried to fall back but was attacked by the rodent creatures which ruined the race and revealed their scam. page 208 ended with the two brothers working for the tavern keep who bet everything on the grandmother. the brothers have to work to pay off their debt.

part of the whole book so far as it ended the climax of the past two hundred pages! i really liked the development between Fone Bone and the grandmothers daughter because it provides contrast to the underlying horror that is still being developed and was seen when the Bones got attacked by the large rat creatures. i felt very upset and angry throughout this part of the story because the greedy bone (i'm not sure if i was clear but the last names of the brothers are Bone and are addressed as so) was scamming all the townsfolk. i was extremely happy that they got what they deserved at the end when they had to help the tavernkeep and the grandmother forever. i just wonder if this is going to have an implication as the story progresses.]]> 2023-10-04 14:38:12 UTC as they are mainly used to create a setting and make the beginning of the plot. the book starts off by explaining that a local astronomer has been seeing abnormal events coming from mars, it set the stage of a smaller town named Woking which would be the setting for the next two to three chapters. a few nights after the astronomer notices these abnormalities a meteor flies overhead and lands in a field near Woking. the astronomer searches for the meteor which he had seen impact the field. when he finds it he is so astonished at his find he tried to convince others of what he found to no avail until a newspaper publisher follows him an publish the story about "the men from mars" and the whirring noise coming from the meteor. soon news caught on and everyone was intrigued and for many days not real at the same time. it made sense that the astronomer who found the capsule was ignored when he tried to tell people about his find because he was so short on breath that he could only get out a few words and the wrd that he decided where a good choice of words where something along the lines of meteor... crash... aliens. i also felt that the reactions of the publication by the news paper writer where very real because it was very overexadurated and when hearing about these crazy stories people would obviously want to walk just down the street to see what was going on. what didn't feel real was that groups of people from all around came to look at the meteor because of this story. it makes sense for people to come see it but the author portays that even though it wasnt thousands of people the people would stay for a long time just to see this "capsule" i really liked these first chapters looking back because they gave a lot of information about the mindsets of the people in this wasn't until these three chapters that we begin to see the scale of whats happening. the main character who hasn't been named yet decides to return to the cylinder, upon which he saw the crowds of people ever increasing. make events simple, the cylinder opens and everyone runs backwards away from it, a man stuck in the pit with the aliens that escaped the cylinder was killed. after a while as it began to turn to night someone decided to approach the cylinder waving a flag to symbolize peace. this was a bad decision as the aliens which didn't move from their spot began to shoot what described as a heat ray that killed many in the crowed including the man with the white flag. and our main character who had gotten to a vantage point trying to see the aliens a while ago watched in the author H.G wells takes a moment for you and the main character to catch their breath. he also takes this time to move onto what the next actions of the book will be. - after seeing what happened to the group of people down in the field our main character takes a run for it. he runs as far as he can go.
