In the beginning, as the boys are starting to know each other, they are discussing their names. Piggy barely begins to speak when Jack blatantly tells Piggy to shut up. “‘You're talking too much...shut up fatty’” (Golding 21). It shows that Jack is responsible for the downfall of the Island society when he starts to disrespect others as morally, he is committing the crime of being rude and not treating others nicely.

Jack is chosen as the leader of the boys as he leads them when hunting. “‘Kill the pig! Cut his throat! Kill the Pig! Bash him in!’”(Golding 104). Jack has lost the true meaning of the purpose for hunting. He finds violence to be normal when doing those things to pigs and the boys begin to think that it is okay as well. Through those actions, Jack is once again responsible for the downfall of the Island Society.

The boys are on their own now, they have begun their first hunt for food with Jack as their leader. “‘He snatched his knife out of the sheath and slammed it into a tree trunk. Next time there would be no mercy…’”(Golding 31). Once again Jack is leading to the downfall of the Island’s society as he shows his loss of humanity. He is losing his humanity and mercy as he is becoming more violent.

Jack is sorting out roles to the boys and discusses priorities. As he is discussing priorities, he emphasizes how an army is needed to kill the pigs on the Island. “‘All the sam you need an army for hunting...hunting pigs!’”(Golding 31). When Jack is sorting out role, he states the need for hunters. Although he uses the word army, giving it a more emphasis on killing the pigs rather than also prioritizing other roles that are as important. Jack misleads the kids towards the path of savagery and violence that eventually leads to the downfall of an uncivilized society.

In Conclusion, Jack is responsible for the downfall of the Island society because of his actions. For example, he commits the crime of theft when he steals Piggy's glasses. As a leader, he disrespects the other boys with insulting names and makes it seem socially acceptable when it really isn't. He also commits the crime of violence and it is mainly seen when he is hunting.
