In 2000, the publication of the Edmonton Protocol (EP) provided proof of concept for a treatment for diabetes beyond insulin replacement. This remarkable milestone helped achieve what was thought to be impossible: Individuals living with Type 1 diabetes becoming insulin-independent. As we mark the 25th anniversary of this achievement, we invite you to share your congratulations, reflections, memories, and messages of appreciation for the researchers, clinicians, and patients who made this milestone possible. Your words will help honour the impact of the Edmonton Protocol and inspire continued progress in the field of diabetes care. Leave a message below to join the celebration!

I was happy to receive an invitation to celebrate the anniversary of the 25 years of the Edmonton Protocol. The whole event was well thought out and the all the speakers were exceptional and informative.

I’m excited about the future of the transplant program and its continuing success.

Dr. Shapiro and especially Dr. Senior have impacted my diabetic health for the better. Even though the transplants were ultimately not successful for me they put me on the right path for better health. If I can be of service in the future I would be happy to help.

Congratulations on the 25 years of the Edmonton Protocol and wishing you success in your ongoing research.
