The current education system ignores the struggles minorities face that make it harder for them to do well in schools. The system dismisses their needs but still expect them to pass state tests. Schools should reshape the way they view education for minorities, because the current curriculum is based of this false sense of American optimism, that is not actually focused on the needs of POC.

The readings talk about how flowers bloom at different rates depending on their living environments. For example, flowers that bloom in fields have the perfect amount of food and water they need to bloom. A concrete flower, however, does not have the same access to food and water, making it harder for them to grow. This is referencing students who who grew up in wealthy vs underprivileged areas. My poster shows the handprints of minority students I have worked with around the bay area, showing that they can still blossom when someone is devoted to understanding their background and needs.
