This is my third semester at Pacific Oaks and I'm in the Social Justice and Advocacy track.

I found out about Pacific Oaks and the SJ/A Program because of the work that I do for Los Angeles County Public Health.

Through my work for the Trauma Prevention Initiative, I have been learning alongside South Los Angeles community members, faith-based providers, educators, healers and my fellow colleagues about the nature and elements needed for transformative community engagement that leads to healthier lives and communities.

From a very young age, I was intrigued by the history of the city that I grew up in. I often visited the homestead museum of my towns founding "fathers".

I have always been very civically involved. My first peace march was in the second grade. My entire elementary school, teachers and parents marched for peace in our community. 

Although my entire family left La Puente. I have the fondest memories of my childhood community. I hope to go back there and do meaningful community work.

A few years ago, I found a series of videos on youtube that covered some of the well known and obscure history of La Puente.

Recently, i re-watched Moonstruck, a film about love, superstition and taking control of your own destiny. I just love the script, the philosophy embedded in all the actors interactions is so sophisticated in a very simple way. Check out a great scene from the movie.
