Bernabe immigrated to the US from Puebla at just 15 years old. When asked why he would come to the US, he says "OK, you love your family, right? I love my family.’ If you got your mom starving for food, you got to do everything for her. That’s what I’m going to do. If I die, I die.” He then talked about how ended up in Middletown, New York. A few months after coming to the US and moving in with his dad, his dad had to go back to Puebla for a family emergency leaving 15 year old Bernabe all by himself in a new world. He went to Middletown to live with a friend and start his new life. Throughout his story, Gibson explains how the economy in Middletown is benefited by the illegal immigrants and how their deportation would affect their economy and the US economy as a whole. He also explains the political views in Middletown and how the upcoming election could effect their town.
