1. I’d say I enjoyed my first interaction I had with this book. It kept me engaged and intrigued as I read about the boys who got trapped on the island, witnessing their unique thought processes and views on the island, others, and the situation at hand.

2. Our book starts with a fair boy, named Ralph, heading to a lagoon of an island, when a fat boy his age, nicknamed Piggy, finds him and joins him. They learn more about each other, and it’s revealed through the pair conversation they crash landed on the island along with some other twee British kids. They talk more about their personal life, go dip in some surprisingly hot water, all while Ralph poked fun at Piggy, causing Piggy to get agitated. They eventually come across a washed up conch shell, which they both agree to blow in to in order to find other castaways. Their trumpeting ends up bringing a lot of younger children, aged 6 to 7, all of which Piggy had to name catalog. Eventually, they come across a very strange group of older boys, but I stopped reading before they could reveal themselves, unfortunately.

3. I have a couple of questions. For one, what’s the island like for the most part? Is it teeming with life, forcing survival of the fittest on the boys? Or is it more quaint, with other resources like food being readily available? Who are the boys that appeared? Where did they come from? And more importantly, how will the boys act now that they’ve been presented with this situation. Between you and me, I already know the boys go savage and insane, but how savage can they get?

4. I was able to manage up to 19, before I had to stop due to the timer. I’m satisfied with what I read, and I could see myself setting a similar page goal of around 20 for full reading days. However, on days where I can only read for 10 minutes, I can see myself getting done around 7-10 pages, and I’m comfortable with making that my reading goal.

1. Too many details to list since last time, I got excused
2. Though there’s no exact, one, easily traceable conflict taking place between the boys in the story, there is one, overarching conflict that is seen throughout many of the conflicts the boys have endured so far; the will to survive. So far, since we left off, the boys have attempted to climb a mountain to light a fire for a signal, came across and were able to seize a pig for meat, had to look after the littluns, and and focus on their own vitality and health. Over these many conflicts, these boys have had many bouts with other forces, whether it’d be between what they think is the best for them or what the elements are throwing at them, yet it all ties back to their will to survive and live, doing the things and debating about the things that’ll help them survive.
3. I enjoy our 10 minutes of reading, and think it should get us at least partway through our books, but I don’t personally think I’ve been the most productive during it. I often have to read things closely to understand them, as if I read them too fast, I’m just left with sparatic details. As such, I don’t get as far as I could compared to how far I got. Still, I am making the attempt to read, which I suppose is the important part.
4. Page 85

A few things I can remember has happened. I’ll just put one. Since we last left off, the boys went around the island in order to scope out its surroundings, and came across a coral reef and other places. During the process, they came across tracks presumably left behind by an animal, which startles them. They eventually make their way up a mountain in the middle, before heading up the mountain. They suggest drawing a map or doing something for the boys at the bottom.

There are multiple main characters, but I’ll just list off the traits of one, piggy. Piggy is technically not his name, but rather a nickname his aunt and all the other boys call him by. He acts as a voice of reason and is very wise, often trying to lead the rest of the boys in the right direction with his advice. However, he is also very short tempered, getting very agitated whenever they do something he feels does not fit. Which, considering how quick and energetic all the other boys can be, he ends up not ending up doing much with his knowledge, also combined with the fact the other boys just think he’s too wise. (If understand by wise)

Honestly, even though I have been making much progress in this book from a page perspective, I’ve feel I’ve been falling behind in my understanding. I keep getting characters names mixed up, I don’t understand what’s happening, I’m not engaged, and though I have been reading, I’ve moreso been reading the words and immediately forgetting what has happened. I can’t tell you much of what happened past the second chapter, nor can I accurately convert what’s been going on. I’ve just been disengaged.

I think what’s going on is not that I haven’t been engaged with the concept of reading, as otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten so far and read so much. I think I’m just disengaged with this book and story, and I’m not interested what’s going on with these characters. So, I think I may reconsider my book choice and perhaps find one that keeps me far more engaged and is more about a subject I’m interested in than this.
