Vocabulary used by BBC

The BBC applies a vocabulary that is neutral and informative; Jaime`s words are not draped with extra emotional layers.
For example, the article says:

Jaime Bennington, the son of late Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington, has criticised the band for replacing his father with musician Emily Armstrong.

and further

On Instagram, Jaime Bennington said fans were "having a hard time wrapping their heads" around her recruitment.

He said the band had "failed to address the concerns of their diverse fan base" after the allegations emerged, and said they had "betrayed the trust" of their followers

These are statements from Jaime himself, given to the readers for a better understanding of his feelings without adding an emotional layer to make a reader feel emphatic about this story. It is in a neutral style that keeps the article informative and gives a clear perspective without manipulating one's feelings.

Vocabulary used by Rolling Stone

While the BBC utilizes more of a neutral tone, Rolling Stone uses accusatory and emotionally filled vocabulary.

For example, the article states:

Chester Bennington‘s son Jaime has slammed Linkin Park for hiring Emily Armstrong to replace his father as the group’s lead vocalist following controversy surrounding her ties to the Church of Scientology and actor Danny Masterson, who was convicted of rape last year.

and further

He continues: “We trusted you to be the bigger better person. To be the change. Because you promised us that was your intention. Now you’re just senile and tone deaf. Insane.”

The words like "slammed", "trusted", "promised", "senile", "tone deaf", and "insane", are very strong expressions that are used in the article to emphasize the emotions, so that readers feel the story. The article itself gives less information on the actual situation and focuses more on the emotional aspect, shifting readers` attention to it as well.

Photos used in the article can also be said to be neutral, as none of the photos portray one or another as a victim or villain in the narrative. Overall, there are 4 photos in the article, each one complimenting the text.

For instance, the article starts with a group photo of a reunited band featuring Emily Armstrong as the lead vocalist. This is logical and gives the story a great start.
