The chairman and founder believes that keeping the price at 99 cents is "A way of giving back". His claim is “We make it faster. We ship it better. We ship it closer. The cans are thinner.” that's how they are able to keep it so cheap. This is good for people who are struggling to provide for their family. Arizona Tea has not changed their price in their 32 years of existence. This is very ethical because it is probably the most affordable drink out, even cheaper than a bottle of water. This has impacted the whole country because everyone knows that Arizona is the cheapest most reliable drink.

1 - What is the Controversy/Ethical Decision?

The ethical decision Patagonia chose to make was to place an ad in New York times on Black Friday which pushed people not to buy their products to benefit the planet.

2 - Why does it matter? Who does it matter to?

It matters to the earth and the future generations of the world. If we cannot continue to preserve our planets health then climate change and pollution will only become worse.

3 - Explain both sides of the argument/discussion.

Patagonia decided to do this because of a few reasons. They know that especially during Black Friday, tons of people are looking for products on a big discount and everything is at high demand. So they put this ad out on this day specifically so people are motivated not to. It was a risk putting it out there because they could either lose tons of sales, or no one listens and they put the ad out for no reason.

4 - Who has this controversy/decision impacted, how, and why?

This controversy has impacted patagonia itself, since if people follow their instructions then their sales will decrease. The earth's health is impacted by the following of these customers because if the sales decrease then it supports maintaning our earths health.

In September 2015, Volkswagen cars that were sold in America a “defeat device” in their diesel engines that could know when they were being tested. This meant that they were changing their performance to have better results.

They found “irregularities” in the tests that measure carbon dioxide emission levels. This would affect around 800,000 cars in Europe; including petrol cars. When the cars “pass” the carbon dioxide test using the software they created, the engines emitted nitrogen pollutants up more than 40 times above what’s allowed in the US.

Volkswagen boss Michael Horn admitted that “they screwed up completely” while the chief executive Martin Winterkorn said that his company had “broken the trust of our customers and the public”. Winterkorn resigned as soon as the scandal broke out. There were no sides to this because the company knew exactly what they did and admitted to it.

This scandal not only affected the Volkswagen company, but also the diesel market. Over the past decade, car makers have spent a fortune on the production of diesel engines. In the US, the diesel car market is around 1% of all new car sales and it would take a miracle for this to increase in the short term.

1 Chipotle recently reached a $7.75 million settlement with New Jersey to address years of child labor law violations. The settlement is the result of a 2020 state audit that uncovered over 30,000 alleged violations from 2017 to 2020, at 85 locations across the state. this is also why they make the portions smaller

2 this matters because we are paying a large amount for a short amount of food and if they keep on lowering the size your going to lose customers

3 I think the reason this is happening is because of the amount of supply portion Control: While Chipotle does offer large portions, they tend to be more controlled in the sense that they try to provide a balanced meal without excessive waste. The actual amount of food can depend on your specific order or the person making your burrito/bowl.

4.Perceived Value for Money: One common complaint is that the portion sizes don't feel like they match the price, especially with rising food costs. Some customers feel that Chipotle's bowls are too small for the money they're spending, leading to frustration. This can especially feel true if people are hungry and expecting a larger portion for what they paid.

1.McDonald's meals have become increasingly expensive over the years, and many people feel that the cost no longer reflects the value. A simple burger, fries, and drink combo can cost as much as a full meal at a local diner or even a healthier, more nutritious option from a grocery store. With rising prices on ingredients and labor, McDonald's has had to raise prices, but customers often question whether the increase is justified, especially when compared to other fast-food chains offering similar items at lower prices. Additionally, many feel that for the quality and portion size, they are not getting enough bang for their buck, particularly when the ingredients in some menu items may not be the most fresh or premium. For the convenience, it may still be worth it for some, but for others, McDonald's meals often feel overpriced for what they offer.

2.This matters because rising food prices impact people’s budgets, especially for families and individuals who rely on fast food for convenience or affordability. As the cost of meals at places like McDonald's continues to increase, it can force customers to reconsider their dining choices, often opting for cheaper, less convenient alternatives. This can affect the overall customer experience and satisfaction, especially when people feel they’re not getting their money’s worth. It also highlights broader concerns about inflation, supply chain issues, and the growing disparity between fast food prices and wages. When fast food becomes less affordable, it disproportionately affects lower-income communities, who may have fewer options for affordable meals.

3.On the product side, the rising prices of McDonald's meals can be attributed to a variety of factors, but it often leads to a perceived decline in value. As ingredients and raw materials become more expensive, McDonald's may sacrifice quality or portion size to maintain profit margins, which customers notice. For example, customers may see smaller servings of fries or less premium ingredients in certain menu items, and that can make the price increase feel unjustified. Additionally, innovations like new menu items, limited-time offers, or healthier options often come with a premium price tag, which can further push the overall cost of meals up. While McDonald's might argue that these changes are necessary to keep up with industry trends and consumer preferences, the result is often a disconnect between the perceived value and the actual price being paid by customers. This can lead to dissatisfaction and, over time, customer loyalty may diminish if they feel the product doesn't justify the rising cost.

4.This controversy has impacted both McDonald's reputation and its customer base. As prices rise, many customers feel frustrated, especially when they perceive that the value of the product no longer matches the cost. For long-time patrons, the affordability of McDonald's used to be one of its biggest selling points, and when that is compromised, it can lead to a loss of trust. People start questioning whether the brand still aligns with the values of convenience and affordability that it once championed.
