His dad would make 20 rupees per month, his mother sang with a group near temples. half of what the group made would go to the church and rest to the singers, although she only made 5 or 10 it really helped out the family. Ramanujan recovering from it was already a miracle, but even though he recovered he did have scars from it. The pox were so bad that there were 4 thousand deaths per year. Also when he was 10 there was a cholera epidemic that killed fifteen thousand people. 3 or 4 out 10 children died before they lived a year.</div>]]></description>

His hand held tgether and guided by his grandfather, was made to trace out Tamil characters in a thick bed of rice spread across the floor, as each character was spoke aloud. Soon fears of Ramanujan's dumbness were dispelled and he began to learn the 12 vowels, 18 constants, and 215 combined consonant-vowel from forms the Tamil alphabet.</div>]]></description>
