During the gilded age many people in the economy were struggling because they worked long hour shifts all throughout the week with no breaks. While they worked they barely were earning enough money to provided for their families or afford shelter to live in. This drove a lot of people to have a hard working mentality which opened many doors for people. Lots of new inventions were made and certain jobs became useless because people found a new and easier way. Child labor was a big thing during the gilded age children were expected and began working for industries as young as 4 years old. Many of them were working in mills, factories, mines, and fields. This caused the children to work full days instead of going to school to get education. Many of the children experienced a longer than average work day.
(Allosso, D., n.a., para.2)

Labor unions are organizations that fought for better working conditions, better wages, and reasonable work hours. During the 1900s the labor unions started a movement called the labor movement that fought for the rights of workers. Many protests occured because most workers were being over worked and the labor unions fought for them to have rest because on average the workers were working more than a hundred hours a week. They also fought against child labor and wanted businesses to stop hiring young children to work. Labor unions created the work free weekend that we have today.
(History.com Editors, 2009, para. 1)

Industrialization was a time were the country moved from agriculturally based to mainly manufacturing based. This is when machines were introduced for manufacturing, many job opportunities were created because factories and industries were being built, and lots of advances in technology. Before industrialization goods and services were made by hand and most people worked on farms. Products took a while to make and was lot more expensive because the product was limited. Since there were more job opportunities it created a lot of wealth for the country because unemployment was very low and allowed people to spend their money on more products.
(Boundless, n.d., para.9)
