From discussions on inclusivity, I liked the idea of adding a glossary at the beginning/end of my lecture to show the key terms used in a lecture. I would also like to implement subtitles in live lectures where I can.

Yes, asking students for feedback really helped because they easily shared their concerns and worries about assignments and exams which meant other students who are attending and also not attending likely felt the same way. This meant there was room for reassurance or extra material that they could benefit from.

The different ways in which students can engage with material and teaching sessions which may not always line up with my expectation of what engagement should look like.

*Communication with students can be key to a professional and working relationship, especially if something has gone wrong (IT issues etc during a lecture).

*Students may not always respond to an activity with the same enthusiasm every year. Each cohort can be different and come from different backgrounds, so may need different support - need to be flexible sometimes.

To do exactly as I tell my students: keep asking questions and explore different resources to answer them.

Being able to understand them and relate to some extent is really helpful.

At the same time, clear communication and boundaries are important so students know what they can expect from their educator.

The PSF document was very helpful in providing important pointers for what to consider in professional practice and how each of the points relate to efficacy as a teacher as well as understanding towards the students. It was helpful in guiding me through what is really important and how to approach a breakdown of explaining a situation during the summative journals.

A journal I used in J24, looking into how students use lecture recordings. Particularly interesting since a lot of Aston courses (at least in HLS) will record many lectures, and I sometimes worry students are less engaged because of that. Use both formal and informal feedback (e.g. MS Form, ask "how do you feel?").
Encourage critical thinking through the what-so what-then what cycle.
In the future, increase "breakout sessions" as they strongly motivate everybody to engage, rather than just a few students.

I had a couple of "spare" slots in the timetable so asked the students if they had any topics they would like to cover regarding personal / professional development. I was happily surprised when several students came forward at the end of the tutorial and suggested some ideas.
