The lesson I´ve chosen for the first post was lesson number eight which was held on April 28.

In this lesson we were asked to do a reding comprehension exercise about the text of page 152, "Job search": firstly, we readed the text and then we solved the respective questions.

The reason why I chose this lesson was once I found it very interesting due to the content of the text.
As I am a young woman who, in a few years, plans to enter the labour market, I believe that this text, which speaks precisely about the different strategies to try to get a job, helped me to have a better idea of what people have to do to enter into the world of work.

The grammar item I´ve chosen from my e-lessons was the passive voice. In this post, I will make a short written presentation on the passive voice, explaining its main rules and giving examples of it.

Passive voice (general)
In the passive, the person or thing that the action was done to becomes the theme. So, we use the passive when the focus is on the action and not who or what did it (if we want to say who or what caused the action, we use by).

Formation/rules

verb 'to be' (in the tense of the main verb in the active sentence) + past participle of the main verb (transitive verb)

Eg.: This house was built by my father; A cake was made by her sister.

Modal verbs: modal + be + past participle

Eg.: The window can´t be opened; Children should be taught to read in school.

The places of subject and object are interchanged

The word "by" is not always used before subject in passive voice, sometimes words "with", "to" and others may also be used before subject in passive voice.

In this post, I´m going to share with you one of my texts that I´ve written for one of my e-lessons.
So, the text that I´m going to share with you is about a woman in her twenties who is very smart and who comes from a poor place and tends to work too hard, I hope you like it...

Today is my twenty-fifth birthday and I still can't believe that I´m living a dream. I have my own house, I have a wonderful boyfriend, I live near the beach, I have a dog and I am in the last year of medical school ... who would have thought that a girl like me, who was born in such a poor place and whom no one believed in could go so far... I smile involuntarily when I think that all my effort and dedication made me get exactly where I dreamed.

I get up out of bed and find my best friends waiting for me with a birthday cake that we devoured together and then, as it was such a nice day, we went surfing all morning. When lunch time came, we went back to my house and josh, my adorable boyfriend was waiting for me with open arms and as soon as I saw him, I run into his arms and he said to me “Happy birthday”. I realised how lucky I was to have the best friends and the best boyfriend ever.
My friends had ordered pizza, my favorite food so the was being perfect.

When we finish lunch, my phone started ringing and, to my surprise, it was my neurology teacher. He was calling to give me one of the best news ever, he said that the university wanted me to be part of an investigation into Lewis body disease and other neurodegenerative diseases ... apapparently, they think I have potential and therefore they decided to give me the opportunity. I am so happy with what I achieved that there are no words to describe my hapiness.

My twenty-fifth birthday was definitely one of the best days of my life.

For post 4, I chose an excerpt from a text I read in the e-lesson number 1 whose title is "Skills for the 21st century workplace" once it was a text that I found very interesting.

Imagination
In the age of technology that we are living in now, it is no longer enough to keep on making the same products. Employers need people who can imagine new approaches and new ideas.
Think: Think of an object or gadget you use every day. How could it be improved? Can you think of three improvements?

Problem solving
Employers will value workers who are able to see problems before they happen and come up with creative solutions.
Think: Imagine you are organising an end-of-term social event at school. Think of some problems that you could face. Can you think of any solutions?

Communication skills
Workers will have to be good communicators. They will have to be able to negotiate and discuss key issues and also write in a clear way without using too many words.
Think: How do people communicate with each other in the 21st century?

My comment:
My personal opinion on the skills needed for the 21st-century workplace is similar to the opinion of who wrote the text and the ones I transcribed (imagination, problem solving and communication skills) are the ones that I personally think are the most important.
I really enjoyed reading this text because it emphasizes the fact that currently it is not enough to have just a good curriculum to work in some company since there are many more characteristics that an employee must have as mentioned in the text.
