Hi, I’m Emma. I come from a science publishing background but then veered into writing and comms, particularly in the health sector. I used to work at the Royal Children’s Hospital where I specialised in family violence communications, and now work at a government agency called HealthShare Victoria, where crises can come up in the form of critical medicine/medical equipment shortages or quality issues. The attached pic is of Amsterdam, where I lived for a few years. I had the time of my life there, and it’s where I began working in comms/PR and had a fine time swanning around Europe for work.

I manage media and comms for the Australian Food and Grocery Council, which is an industry body for food and grocery manufacturers. I've spent most of my career in journalism, with a few stints in comms and factchecking before making a permanent shift to comms three years ago. I love writing and storytelling but crisis comms is something I feel I need to get my head around to round out my abilities. As a journo I feel like I'm running on instinct a lot but hope to be able to develop some systems with this course that will help me deal with issues with more speed and less stress. My main interest is in recycling and sustainability issues. I work remotely from northern NSW and am often accompanied at work and on outings by our two-year-old Cavoodle, Teddy.
