Macacunog, Johaira

Sanchez, Jenelyn

Monopollo, Joyce

Cataquis, Cristelle Anne

Gawid, Princess Angel

Calda, Davyn Daniel

Hibe, James Ryan

Viaña, Steven Claude

Horizontal communication takes place differently from day to day. Two employees having the same work title and work together while doing a single task is an example of horizontal communication. Another example of horizontal communication would be two other employees working in two different departments like, for instance, sales and marketing, when they happen to collaborate on a particular project. Horizontal communication is a kind of workplace communication by two persons in the organization who are at the same level. This can be employees within the same department and at the same job title or employees from different departments at the same hierarchical level.

Examples of Horizontal Communication

Countless examples abound in the business world, where horizontal or lateral communication has gone a long way in ensuring successful outcomes. As in a tech start-up, for example, where software developers, architects, and testers, engages in stand-up, short daily meetings as part of horizontal communication activities. They will be able to provide status updates, list blockers that they face with their tasks, synchronize their tasks, and hence create an environment of collaborating with one another so that they can speed up the software development process.

To paint a more corporate picture, the company in question could have separate marketing and sales divisions. Both of these teams would often need to work together to understand their customer's requirements better for implementing a sales strategy and also align themselves for promotional activities. Thus, very high horizontal communication is evident in the two teams.

On a different subject, it might be found in the context of the academic world as well. In universities, professors from different disciplines may work together in an interdisciplinary study or research project. Quite often, these faculty members meet regularly and maybe at departmental meetings.

Group Members:

Ivy Margaret Bernardino

Jhon Herbert Atienza

Joshua Paolo Laplana

John Laurence Data

Cristine Galang

Arabella Grace Roxas

Bryan Suzara

Carol Anilao

Mariane Gomez

Upward communication is a form of organizational informal communication wherein the communication flows from subordinates or employees to superior levels or in those in position of leadership. It is a process of employees providing feedback, suggestions, concerns, and satisfaction about the organization and its management. This communication takes place either in the nature of feedback or in nature of original thoughts and suggestions at the initiative of the lower levels.

Some of the examples where upward communication is commonly used is when the company sets up a suggestion box, where employees make suggestions anonymously that help the organization understand the common workplace trends , employees' concerns and such more. This is also applicable at school. Students raise concern to the teacher or Student Affairs Office and from them to the faculty, faculty to the admins to the school director.

One of our team members willingly shares his experience at work. He shared, "Our few members have experience in this kind of system. They are conducting monthly staff meetings with all of their office mates and division heads, they asking with different matters even if it's small thing for the division heads but its impact to the staffs is massive.

Therefore, it is easy to have a solution to the problem because it is directly raised by the employee and answered by division heads who have the authority".

This approach will help managers to perform better cultivating stronger leadership, enabling them to address issues inside the company which boost the employees' morale and increase their performance. This also can help to retain employees because they have felt that the company truly cares

and values them.
