Juan and Mariana have a strong bond because they are both willing to give up their life to send a message to the other person. Juan ended up censoring the letters. He saw his letter that he sent to Mariana. He was so into censoring that he censored his letter. His plan was to get his letter and send it to Mariana. His plan didn't work. Della eventually had all of her hair off to get enough money to buy Jim the gift. they have a really strong bond because they are both willing to give up something of theirs to give the other one something they want. Della had long beautiful hair so Jim got her combs. Jim had a watch the he loved and Della got him a watch chain. They both sold what they had to make the other person happy.
