I chose to write my album review on Lorde’s new record “Melodrama” which was released a whole four years after her last one. I wholeheartedly believe that this is by far the best album she has released yet. The songs on this record are a mix of electo-pop and indie, making them distinctly her own. Her previous album “Pure Heroine” was about the anxiety and fear of growing up, while this album is all about personal growth. All eleven songs on this album seem to talk about youth and growth. I chose to talk about two songs, both of which had a second repeated song on the same album. “Liability” and “Sober” are my two favorite songs in this album. “Liability” is a slower song that Lorde’s own personal vulnerability shines through, while “Sober” has a faster tempo and has a very unique sound quality. I think Lorde is a very capable musician, and I don’t doubt that she will continue to produce more inspiring songs.
