Throughout the whole story McCutcheon has always been forced by his dad to become the best caged fighter. While this may be what his dad wants, McCutcheon want to learn and go to school. This is shown on page 125 " "Dad,I wanna talk to you about school for a minute" "Fuck school. You're a cage fighter." I smashed the mitt "I CAN BE MORE THAN AN ANIMAL." " This shows that McCutcheon want to go to school like most other kids but is forced to be a cage fighter. This ended up causing McCutcheon and his father to fight which made his father flee with Gemma. This made McCutcheon really mad and search day and night for Gemma for the next two days. But then, he figured out the only way he was gonna get his sister back was if he went to the fight on Saturday.

The theme of the book is to pursue what feels best to you, not what you're told to do. on page 125 " "Dad,I wanna talk to you about school for a minute" "Fuck school. You're a cage fighter." I smashed the mitt "I CAN BE MORE THAN AN ANIMAL." " This shows that McCutcheon want to do more then be a caged warrior and to go to school. This shows my theme because McCutcheon's dad is trying to force him to become the MMA world champion while McCutcheon just enjoys martial arts and feels that there is more to life then fighting in a cage constantly.

“Though it was only a twenty-five-minute ride to radiance , it felt like we’d arrived in a different universe” (caged warrior, Alan Sitomer, 67) This is an example of imagery. This quote tells us that McCutcheon sees the new town as a whole different universe. This shows us that the new town was nothing like where he lived.

"Wow, the son of a bitch played me like a Xbox." (Cage Warrior, Alan Sitomer, 164) This is an example of a simile, its saying that McCutcheon's dad used Gemma as his secret weapon if McCutcheon ever decided he wanted to go against his dad and stop caged fighting. This tells us that McCutcheon would have a struggle getting his beloved Gemma back.

"When I was nine I pulled off my first flying arm bar and

snapped an opponent’s elbow at the joint like a crispy fried

chicken wing." (caged warrior, Alan Sitomer, 11) This is a simile saying that McCutcheon snapped his opponent's elbow like breaking a crispy fried chicken wing.

Summary

At the start of the book, McCutcheon dad is training him to become the MMA world champion which his dad wasn't able to achieve. But, later there is a charter school lottery which his teacher Mr. Freedman insist McCutcheon joins it but he declines because he isn't lucky and his dad didn't fill out the forms. But to his surprise, Mr. Freedman entered him into the lottery and he ended up winning a spot in the charter school. When he mentioned wanting to peruse going to school, his dad made his crush at the charter school, Kaitlyn go to his next fight and see what his "skateboarding" was. This causes McCutcheon to fight his dad which made him flea with Gemma. Which makes McCutcheon have to fight against one of his sparing partners seizure so he could hopefully see Gemma again.

Review on Caged warrior

I personally enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others because it was very interesting and it showed docs journey to become the MMA world champion. The main character doc trains and grows as a character through the book which made it more interesting. I would recommend reading caged warrior because it shows how no matter what may be happening to you, you can do anything. The book also has amazing details of the fights he went though which made me constantly read the book.
