Some goals I've used with students in the past for the check-in/check-out are:
-I used whole body listening.
-I used full-body respect with peers and adults.
-I followed directions the first time asked.
-I raised my hand if I had something to add.

It can differ from student to student. I've also used some that link to academics more as well.

Building relationships with students is one of the greatest tools we have. I worked with a 4th grade male student during the day and after school. He began to pull away from friends, being very quite, I even noticed a complete change in his demeanor. I found opportunities to talk to him and encouraged him to talk to me or our school counselor about what was causing this change. After a few weeks he confided in me and I made sure that he got the help that he needed. This student has now graduated from high school and is on his way to becoming a pediatrician. I don't share this to toot my own horn, I share this because it is a good example of "It's easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." I also know that there are many more educators out there who have made a difference in a child's life.

I felt the Ted Talk was the best part of the modules. I also like watching the classroom morning circle discussions. So many children come to school with an "empty bucket" to help start their day with a full bucket of affirmations can make all the difference and set the tone of the day.
