         <description><![CDATA[<div>WWII ends. Residential Schools are in a state of grave disrepair. At the same time, the war had brought human rights and bigotry into public consciousness. Attention soon fell on First Nations communities and the poverty and social ills resulting from generations of colonialism and the Indian Residential School system. </div>]]></description>

The changes also give the provinces jurisdiction over the welfare of Indigenous children.
