            These capabilities encompass skills, knowledge, behaviours and dispositions. Students increase their capacity for these skills when they apply them confidently, effectively and appropriately during their lives, in schools and outside the classroom.
           The general capabilities are taught throughout the learning areas of the curriculum. They are identified where they are developed or applied in the content and are utilised where they can offer opportunities to add value and insight to the learner.

This theory promotes skills, knowledge and behaviours that can be used in collaboration and critical thinking, resulting in deeper understanding.
        These lessons enhance the student-focused teaching strategies to foster an environment of active learning. Having these lessons provided and presented as a cohesive strategy for the school creates a sense of togetherness, one where the students feel they’re involved and not having their learning disjointed by separating classes (Gilbert & Hoepper, 2014). 
           Integrated learning is a modern-day realisation that learning needs to be child-centered, relevant, and meaningful. With this in mind, a curriculum can be created where units are interconnected and spread across a range of social, cultural, economic, and political contexts (Aguilar, 2011)

With an integrated learning model crossing classes, educators are better equip to answer questions students have that may be unrelated to the specific class, but relevant to their integrated education as a whole.
          The Australian curriculum, guided by the ideas put forward by the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians and the Shape of the Curriculum document, sets out the general capabilities for learning. This encompasses behaviours, skills, knowledge, and dispositions that will be beneficial for students to successfully interact and contribute to 21st century society (Green, 2017). 
          Developing social, emotional and cognitive general capabilities put forward by the Australian Curriculum, students will become successful learners as they: 
· Collect, organise, then analyse information
· Communicate information and ideas
· Plan thoroughly and organise activities
· Cooperate constructively with others
· Use mathematical ideas and techniques
· Develop and implement problem solving skills
· Use of information technology (Victoria Government, 2013).
