This quote shows that Beneatha has dreams and desires of being a doctor.  In this Beneatha is explaining to Walter that she deserves the insurance money to be a doctor.  She wants to be more than the normal nurse during her time period.  She wants the insurance money to pay for college and her doctors degree.
