Perseverance

Quote- "That was what one person could do for another, fix him up – sew up the problem, make him all right again... I wanted to cure. It used to be so important to me. I wanted to cure. It used to matter. I used to care. I mean about people and how their bodies hurt."(p.133)
This quote shows that Beneatha has dreams and desires of being a doctor. In this Beneatha is explaining to Walter that she deserves the insurance money to be a doctor. She wants to be more than the normal nurse during her time period. She wants the insurance money to pay for college and her doctors degree.

I mean about people and how their bodies hurt."(p.133)

This quote shows that Beneatha is showing up Asagai about his dreams of Africa. Beneatha doesn't want Asagai to talk her into moving to Africa. Beneatha states that she would not do any good as a doctor and Africa and makes Asagai know that. She stands for herself and shows that her nature is for her to go to medical school in Chicago.

This picture shows the struggles of Beneatha's life. All the black and grey colors represent struggle with her identity and heritage. The reds represents her conflict with Walter and the loss of the insurance money for her college. The tree is the roots to her personality and her insecurities of her heritage. This piece is conveying Beneatha as a character and her problems as a character.

This poem relates to Beneatha because her love with Asagai and George gets to her. Between lines 1 through 6 it talks about a person and views on the love for another. It talks about how she overcomes her problems. In lines 10-12 and 16-18 this is shown that she could have done better and she has moved on.

1-Love has passed me by before
2-What we had I’m not sure
3-Never been so hard to know
4-Jet black hair across her face
5-Her assured way, her masculine grace
6-When I'm not high I'm low

7-Forget-me-nots in bloom
8-My perfume in her room
9-A dull ache where there once was fire
10-I'm not angry with you for treating me that way
11-You could have done better but it's OK
12-Was it love or was it desire?

13-Birds in a dark garden sing
14-If it's not a loss it's a win
15-If only there was some way to know
16-But with us it was not direct
17-The things I said I can't correct
18-And she made her choice to go

There was feeling of nothing and courage shown in lines 1 through 5. Beneatha had felt this when Walter told her that she could not be a doctor. Beneatha ends up overcoming all this and shows that she

Post 8- Fences Theme

The theme of Fences is that generational differences can influence one's perspective on life. This is similar to the theme in A Raisin in the Sun to where the different generations have an impact of the story. This is shown when Mama and Walter argue on whether or not he should spend the insurance money on the liquor store. In Fences Troy does not want Cory to play football because he is afraid that Cory wont have a chance in the league like he did. Troy's dad was hard on him and did not treat him the way that he was suppose to. Then this leaded down with Troy and Cory and he is strict with him. This can be connect with Mama and how she tries to have control over her children when her husband passed. Over Walter and Troy are similar characters in a way that they are always miserable from past events.
