Evidence that Pangea existed: (Walker)

In 1912, Alfred Wegener proposed the idea of Pangaea, the one thing he did not have was evidence so many people thought he was crazy. Although he died in 1930, his idea lived on scientists discovered multiple pieces of evidence. One of these pieces of evidence is animal fossils. The animals that were found were called lystrosaurus these animals were found in Australia, Antarctica, India, South America, and South Africa. Another piece of evidence that there was a supercontinent is that multiple tropical plants were found in Antarctica which shows it could have only have gotten there if the continents were together so the plants can spread throughout the supercontinent . All of the pieces of evidence have to do with climate because even though some of these places climates have 100 degree differences, they still have fossils in common.

Pangea was a supercontinent that existed during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras, (225 million years ago) and was a big piece of land that formed by converging all of the continents. Then, the plate tectonics under the ocean shifted, which caused Pangea to break apart into separate pieces. The pieces or landmasses that used to make up Pangea are now the continents we have and know today. If you take a look at a map from showing our world today, you can see that some of the continents looked like they could fit together like a puzzle. This inspired the theory of the continents shifting.
