    Toughtful, regretful, weak, doubtful, insecure, confused and has inner conflicts

    Can be seen in his soliloquies:
    -"But in these cases, we still have judgement here that we but teach bloody instructions, which, being taught, return to plague the inventor" (p.47, l.7) Macbeth talks about his plan to murder Duncan, he thinks a lot about the murder
    -"Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hand?", "A dagger of the mind, a false creation, proceeding from the heat-oppressèd brain?" (p.55, l.32 ff.) Macbeth "talks in questions", he imagines a dagger and it seems like the killing of Duncan overexerts him
    -"For them the gracious Duncan have I murdered, put rancours in the vessel of my peace" (p.89, l.67) the murder of Duncan destroyed Macbeth's inner peace, therefore he regrets it

    Can also be seen in dialogues with his wife:
    -"We will proceed no further in this business", "prithee, peace" (p.49) Macbeth's courage to kill Duncan has vanished he is frightened by this thought and even sounds paranoid (prithee, peace) his wife has to encourage him
    -"Still it cried, 'Sleep no more!' to all the houses; 'Glamis hath murdered sleep, and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more: Macbeth shall sleep no more.'" (p.61, l.40) After killing Duncan Macbeth thinks he had heard a voice telling him that he won't sleep again, he is driven by a bad conscience, feels guilty and treacherous
    -"Hence horrible shadow, unreal mockery, hence!", "And keep the natural ruby of your cheeks, when mine is blanched with fear" (p.115) Macbeth is frightened by Banquo's ghost which, again, demonstrates his regrets and bad conscience

    Short before his death:
    -When Macbeth finds out about Macduffs birth he says "I'll not fight thee" (p.199, l.22). No prophecy or supernatural power can help him now and he remains being a coward
