<title>The extrinsic muscle of tongue included: styloglossus, hyoglossus, genioglossus and palatoglossus. The styloglossus muscle acts to lift the lateral edges and to retract the tongue. The hyoglossus muscle causes retraction as well as depression of the tongue. The genioglossus muscle protrudes the tongue. The palatoglossus muscles elevate the posterior part of the tongue.茎突舌肌的作用是抬起舌头的外侧边缘和收回舌头。舌舌肌引起舌头的收缩和凹陷。舌肌伸出舌头。腭舌肌抬高舌头后部。</title>

<title>The palatoglossus muscle functions to elevate the posterior portion of the tongue. It also draws the soft palate inferiorly, thereby narrowing the diameter of the oropharyngeal isthmus. This action plays a significant role during swallowing by propelling the food bolus towards the esophagus and occluding the oral cavity, thereby preventing retrograde flow of the food.</title>
