It’s the third biggest city of Turkey. İzmir is famous for not only with its historical beauties but also with its fig and grape yards. İzmir is located by the Agean Sea that provides people to reach wonderful beaches such as Çeşme, Seferihisar, Foça in an hour. İzmir’s one of the most significant historical place to be visited is “ Ephesus “ which is an antique city and “ The House of Virgin Mary “ that attracts millions of people all around the world every year. We want to make our guests from other countries to share and discover the beauties of our city with us.
 Our school is dating back to 1860. Our schools old building was first built as a mansion. Later it was used as a police office. In 1927 by the help of Buca’s mayor ; the building was converted into a school. It was named after famous Turkish Commander and Sailor “ Umur Bey “.
 The name of our school, “ Umurbey Primary School “ has been changed into “ Makbule Süleyman Alkan Secondary School “ who is the donator of our new school building. 
 According to the 4+4+4 Education sytem that was implemented in the academic year 2012-2013, our school has become a secondary school and its name has become Makbule Süleyman Alkan Secondary School.
 There are 20 classes, a science lab, a music class, 2 Technology Craft and Classes, an art class, a conference hall and a theatre hall in our school. Also, we have got 4 directors, 75 teachers, 5 servants and a civil servant working.
 Our mission is to educate the students who love their country, who know their own culture and history, who has national values, having the ability to think universally and to educate contemporary, sensitive and successful students.
 Our vision is to be a leading and exemplary institution that adopts a respectable, reliable and contemporary education approach that goes on in the light of Atatürk’s principals and reforms.

Our Achievements :
 Academically, it is ranked first in Buca, our school is constantly in top ten in the rankings of the İZMİR province. Also our school is an example around with the achievements in the social and cultural activities.

Sports and Activities :
 Currently.We have a football team, girls’ and boys’ basketball teams, girls’ volleyball team, girls’ handball team and other school teams on Athletism branches. Besides our students individually have activities on swimming, archery, jymnastics, chess, and Taek wando.
Social and Cultural Activities :
 We have a school theatre club and folk dance activities. Our parents’ music choir and wood painting course at school.
 We also work together with non governmental organizations like LOSEV and The Red Crescent Association.
