During the 2023-2024 school year, I will work to build positive relationships with students. I will have a "no opt-out" mindset and use a variety of methods to increase student participation and involvement and mindfulness. Efforts to engage all learners with culturally-responsive teaching strategies will be clearly planned and documented, and I will utilize all strategies within my disposal to help to ensure student success. I will examine and plan student interactions to build and strengthen connections with students, promote a growth mindset, SEL and Mindfulness, and a "we can and will - together" framework of thinking.

Instructional Goal

During the 2023/2024 school year, I will develop systems to effectively and consistently use Kagan strategies in my room. I will do this by intentionally planning Kagan structures into my lessons, teaching my students a core set of structures that we use frequently, inviting others into my room to give me feedback on my use of structures, and reflecting on how to continue to improve my practice in this area. I will work toward the goal of a minimum of one structure (on average) in each lesson.

Due to this increased focus on Kagan strategies, student achievement in digital Technology students will improve as measured by pre/post assessments and qualitative data to further productive, respectful and mindful language..

Reflection

As I reflect on my instructional goals for this school year, I am thrilled with my growth in implementing “Kagan” structures. In my first year of using these strategies, I successfully incorporated the “morning meeting” routine into my classes and frequently utilized turn-and-talk partners during instructional time. I also established clear expectations and routines for guiding student discussions and behaviors.

I am most proud of my cultural competency goal this year, as I've significantly increased engagement with both my students and those outside my classroom. The Panther News Launch has helped build connections and mindful habits throughout the school. I've formed strong relationships with 2nd and 4th grade students, working with them during library class and lunch to create paper cranes. During my morning duty, I built additional connections with 4th graders, and with my 5th grade lunch group, we wrote and directed the "100 Paper Cranes" play. This collaborative effort involved students from grades K, 4, 5, and 8, culminating in a successful performance. I continually reflect on my practice to better serve my students.
