Hello, class of 2021!!! I graduated from high school in 1994, but I did not have a traditional high school to college experience because I became a mom at 16 (11th grade). In 2016, my daughter became our family's first college graduate from CSUN, and my son will graduate from SJSU in 2023. #proudmom #firstgeneration

I attended a tech school in 1997. I geeked out for a year and learned some nifty computer tech tricks that helped me kick off my career with AVUHSD in 1998. Now that my kids are grown, I am back in school working towards my associates at Eastern Gateway Community College. Once I complete my associates degree, I am hopeful to also complete my bachelor's as well! Keep pushing! Never give up!

Despite all of the challenges thrown your way, you've made it! You've demonstrated your resilience, tenacity, and most of all perseverance to tackle ordinary and extraordinary obstacles this past year. As you take your next steps into the bigger world, always treasure and remember how you got there. Hold tight to all of the special relationships in your life and foster your sense of curiosity. You won't always have the answer and you may need help. Seek to be a kind person, no matter where the road takes you, you never know just how much that can mean to others and even yourself.

I wish the Class of 2021 a life full of many wonderful adventures. Like many of you, my first BIG adventure on my own was college. I look back on the experience with so much joy and happiness. UCI is where I found my passion for research. UCI is where I made great friendships. UCI is where I found great mentors. UCI is where I met my husband. UCI was a great foundation for my LIFE. I always hope to inspire you to have a passion for learning, I try to nurture good, healthy relationships. I wish that you have a life filled with lots of love and support. My 5 pieces of advice to you as you are getting ready for your journey (whether it be college, the military, or entering the workforce) is: (1) make connections; (2) remember that making mistakes is part of learning; (3) use the resources and support systems that are out there when you need help (EARLY); (4) your mental health is important, so make it a priority; (5) you CAN do it. !Si se puede!

I'm excited to announce that I will be attending UCLA in the Fall as a Neuroscience major with a minor in Disability Studies 🧠 🩺 My goal is to work in Pediatric Neurology or Neuropsychology, specializing in Neurodevelopmental Disorders. After undergrad, I'll either go to Med School or obtain a Ph.D. Whichever I choose, I'm happy that I'll be able to pursue my passions and have experiences at UCLA that will help me find the right career path.

I think we can all agree that this year was far beyond what any of us expected to occur during our Senior year at SOAR, nevertheless, the end is nearing and we survived! I am super proud of what everyone achieved this year, you earned it!!

Starting in the 2021 Fall term, I will be attending UC Davis as an Animal Biology Major on that pre-vet track! <3 🐾 Once obtaining my BA, I plan on applying to Vet School at UCD and working toward my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). I visited the UC Davis campus about a month ago and absolutely fell in love with the school. The abundance of trees and nature, the ducks waddling along the edge of the lake on campus, the small-town vibes in Downtown Davis with "mom and pop" restaurants, the focus on living a sustainable lifestyle on campus, and being able to get anywhere in town with just a bike convinced me this was the university for me. :) Go Aggies! 🐴✨

Wow, what a year! You have had to endure the worst and you sure did it with style. I grew up here in the valley attending Sunnydale Elementary, Park View Jr. High, Quartz Hill High School (Class of 1976 - below), AVC, then to Colorado to a Secretarial Trade College. I have had many successes in my life and also failures. As will you.... But, when you succeed, humbly and proudly smile; when you fail, embrace it, learn from it, and go on. I will be going to CSULB to pursue Industrial Design (aka, product design) as a Presidential Scholar! I am more than excited to attend as I will be using my creativity to create and innovate new products at a higher level. In college, I want also want to be a part of an internship and compete in Ultimate Frisbee and kickboxing.

Once again, I am super proud of all of you and I wish we could have had an in person senior year but we made the most out of this! Dont forget, anything is possible and an opportunity is only as good as you make it :)

Hello everyone!

First, I would like to address the elephant in the room… our senior year. It was a year like no other, from initially asking what on earth “Zoom” was to undertaking the labyrinth of college applications remotely. Yet, the most extraordinary part of senior year was not this once-in-a-century pandemic, but how our class responded to this gargantuan change in our lives. Our families, teachers, and friends were inspired by your fortitude, resiliency, and unflinching grit to defy this fierce storm. Whether you are going to a four year college, embracing AVC’s promise year, or beginning on a new journey entirely, YOU 100% earned it! I have no doubt that each of you will stride towards the future with the tools to flourish and succeed.

Beginning this fall, I will be attending UC Berkeley as a Molecular & Cellular Biology major and (hopefully) a Bioengineering minor. I am energized by the possibilities of novel scientific research at Berkeley, and I intend to earn my PhD in a biological discipline afterwards. From there, I hope to lead my own research laboratory to participate in the pursuit to understand life itself.

Once again, I am tremendously excited to hear of all of the great things that each of you have set out to do :)

I've decided to attend UCLA in the fall and I couldn't be more excited! I am majoring in Physiological Science with a possible Spanish minor on a pre-med track. I don't know what kind of physician I'd like to be but through EMT, I've learned that I'm really interested in the cardiovascular system so I might go into cardiology.

I'm beyond grateful to have been provided the opportunity to go to such an amazing university and it's the best feeling to know that all of my hard work at SOAR has finally paid off. I'm sure many of you feel the same way and I sincerely wish every one of you the best. Go Bruins!!! 🐻

I graduated from Mojave High School (Class of 1998) and obtained my Bachelor’s in English from CSUB in 2003. I worked full-time as a 911 Dispatcher to pay for tuition while I studied to become an English teacher. I often worked swing shift or graveyard while I carried a full load of classes. After I became an English teacher, I continued to take classes at night (after a full-day of teaching high school) and studied during the weekends to obtain my Master’s degree in English to become a college professor. I did not qualify for financial aid and had to work really hard to achieve my dreams. I love reading, writing, and learning and was always passionate about continuing my education. My advice is to pursue a degree in something you love and are passionate about and that passion and love will help carry you through when the journey seems impossible. I am beyond proud of how much you have achieved thus far! You are years ahead of where we were at your age! It’s incredible! We are super proud of each and every single one of you! We love you and congratulations on hitting this milestone! This is only the beginning!

I will be attending California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, majoring in mechanical engineering in the fall. Although I'm not sure what kind of engineering I want to specialize in, I know Pomona will help me discover what I'm truly passionate about.

I plan to complete my bachelor's degree and work for Northrop Grumman. Later, I want to pursue a master's degree in mechanical engineering and start my own business.

To keep it short and simple, I came to SOAR sophomore year and haven't regretted my decision in the least. To meet who I've met and learn what I've learned, I would gladly do it all over again.

This fall, I'll be attending Scripps College here in Claremont, CA as a dual major in Environmental Analysis and History major. Not entirely sure in what career but I hope to work in academia, research and/or governmental bodies in order to be in a position where I'm continuously learning whilst having the opportunity to invoke at least some sort of change. That is my ideal scenario for these two subjects.

For the 2021 fall semester I will be attending the University of California- San Diego! I will be studying structural engineering, and hope to obtain a bachelor's degree at the end of my four year college journey. I am going to UCI to complete a Bachelors in Game Design and Interactive Media! I am super happy to be able to pursue something that I love to do, and I hope to create some awesome contributions to the industry in the future. In college I hope to intern at Riot Games, and be a part of their team after graduation.

I received the news in December and I am still stunned. For my higher education, I am proud to share that I will be attending Caltech! I feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to grow and learn at an incredible campus. I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in aerospace engineering. I am already considering graduate school, with intentions to receive my PhD. For now, I am really excited about my next step. I can’t believe that I am leaving the nest. Lastly, I aspire to work in the space industry, specifically with NASA.

It looks like I'm going to UCLA. I am majoring in Philosophy and I hope to get several articles/pieces published by the time I achieve a BA so that I will be on good footing to pursue a doctorate program in philosophy afterwards. I plan on centering my writing around the philosophical implications of modern scientific developments and I hope to produce groundbreaking work during my time in college.

It was pleasant spending the last 4 years with everybody. I enjoyed my time getting to know SOAR and AVC and I will always remember the interesting discussions I've had with nearly everybody. I have learned a lot from all of your experiences and I appreciate all of the experiences we've been through together.

Wherever we may go from here, remember that we are the future. We are at the epicenter of the planet and we are the most capable generation to touch the face of the earth. There is no doubt we will all do great things. Good luck!

Also wanted to give a special shoutout to my fam, friends, and all the staff who worked with me to get me to where I am today. It's truly a blessing to see how far I have made it down my own path with such awesome people beside me.

For the next part of my journey, I'm going to Pepperdine University in Malibu. I'll be doing their Pre-Med track so I can major in Philosophy and become a Physician at the same time. I also plan on playing in their Frisbee team(yeah, thanks Mr. Small) and in their Smash Bros eSports team so I am very excited!

Omg! Four years went by way too fast, but we all made it and survived high school. It is definitely a journey that I will never forget and cherish forever. Getting to know everyone and enjoying each others presence are one of the most beautiful memories I've made here at SOAR. I'd love to thank all of the staff, teachers, Dr. Herrera, friends (all of the study sessions and us being our crazy selves came in clutch for pushing through all four years), and my mom for making this high school experience beyond great!

Congratulations everyone on your acceptances, accomplishing everything that you have so far and more, and for being outstanding people and students! I'm very very proud of what we've all been able to do in a short amount of time.

For fall, I will be attending UC Santa Barbara to major in biology. From there I will hopefully get into a dental school where I'll then study an extra two years to become an orthodontist to assist those without access to a good oral care office.

I want to start off by saying congratulations to the class of 2021! I know that this was not the senior year we envisioned, but above everything we have all made great strides. I have decided to further my education at UC Riverside! I will be majoring in History, and perhaps minoring in something else I have yet to choose. Wow when they said these four years would go by fast I should've believed them! Congrats everyone on making through yet another chapter of our lives! SOAR has brought me close to some of the most amazing people I know, and really helped give me a taste of "college life". It hasn't been an easy road but one that I would say was worthwhile.

As for my plans for the next four years I will be attending Spelman College in Atlanta,GA! I always wanted to go to an HBCU but never thought I would be attending the #1! I'll be an Environmental Science and Engineering Dual Degree Major and hopefully that will lead me to innovate new products in the world of sustainability.

Hi everyone! Congrats to all the seniors, as I know we have all worked our butts off to get to where we are right now. I have loved my time at SOAR as I have met so many of my best friends, and strengthened some of my favorite friendships. Soar was not easy, and really difficult at times but I am grateful for everything that it taught me about college life.

I am excited to announce that this fall I will be attending UC Berkeley! I intend to be a public health major with a minor in psychology. After my undergraduate I do plan on continuing, but as what I am not sure yet. I want to go to nursing school, but I am also considering pursuing my masters in public health. I hope with that with time it will help me decide what I want to do.

So I'm at a happy point in my life where things have fallen into place for me. Couldn’t have happened without all the great people at SOAR High School. I am going to UCLA and I’ll be majoring in Political science ~ with a possible minor in Chicano Studies~. Nobody in my family has ever gone to university, so a lot of this is new for me. I’m hoping to further pursue my education by attending law school and becoming an immigration lawyer or a human rights lawyer. Thankyou to the staff and to my friends for making SOAR a memorable experience. I can’t wait to see what you all accomplish.

So I guess that's it, feels weird. I felt like this part of our lives was so far away and would take years before we got here but I guess not. It felt more like a few seconds. However, I know this isn't just an ending for us but also a new start as well. these last two years at SOAR have been an absolute ride, and while there were some tough times i am glad to have met this amazing community.

Hello and congratulations to us all! Who would have thought that 4 years ago we would be where we are now. All of the hopes and dreams that we have are being realized, and all of the new aspirations that we have dreamt up, it is all so crazily wonderful. I love it!

As for me, I plan on going to UC San Diego for school, my major will be Political Science with a focus on my pre-law track. I got into the Thurgood Marshall school for UCSD and I can’t wait to see all that the school has to offer! After, I plan to go to law school, and then head into the real world as an attorney!

I have also been shadowing many lawyers and might just take a gap year to begin work at a private defense firm to gain experience for a year, then reapply again next year, however, most likely will be spending my next two years at UCSD.

As you already know, I plan to become a lawyer, most likely corporate first then a prosecutor for the state, and afterwards head on over to politics!

It has been an amazing 4 years with all of you, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds, it will be amazing, truly!

Hey everyone! I can’t believe our high school journey is over already. I am so proud of all of us! We worked hard for every single accomplishment and we are finally reaching one of the biggest milestone in our lives. I couldn’t be more grateful to have met each and every single one of you guys. Congratulations everyone on your decisions to pursue what lies ahead! It's amazing to see how much we have all accomplished over these past four years and I cannot wait to see what our futures have in store for us. SOAR has been such a great school to attend and has offered us many opportunities, from the rigorous academics to the small family-like community, SOAR has felt like a second home. I want to thank all my teachers, counselors, staff, and friends for helping get through high school. You all made it bearable and exciting. I came back each day with a smile on my face, determined, motivated, and thrilled because I knew I had a community who was constantly going to have my back.

I am proud to announce that this upcoming fall I will be attending UC Berkeley. I was accepted as a Sociology major but it's most likely going to change to a major in Ethnic Studies and a Minor in Gender and Women's Studies. I am still undecided on a career path, trust me it changes every five seconds but I intend to travel the world and make change.
