This stage occurs between birth and 12-18 months. It is where the infant finds out whether the world is a good/safe place or not.
The parents of the child I interviewed stated that when she cried, they would comfort her and soothe her in different ways depending on the situation

"Attachment between infant and caregiver is the result of working models formed on the basis of a history of interactions. It is an adaptive system designed by natural selection to ensure care and survival of infants."

This stage between ages 12/18 months to 3 years old. The child develops the balance between confidence in doing things independently and self-sufficiency over shame and doubt.
The mother I interviewed helped the child develop a sense of independence because she gets to pick out her own clothes in the morning, even if they don't match. She also is potty trained, which means she gets to dictate (for the most part) when she goes to the bathroom.

"As children are better able to make their wishes understood, they become more powerful and independent. Because Page 157unlimited freedom is neither safe nor healthy, said Erikson, shame and doubt also have a necessary place."

Stage 3: Initiative vs. Guilt

This stage occurs between ages 3 to 6 years old. This stage is when the child develops initiative when they attempt to do new things. They also learn to not be overwhelmed with a sense of guilt during this time.
When the child plays with her little brother, she takes the initiative to tell him what role he plays. For example, when they play house, she decides that she is the mother and her brother is the dog and the child.

"This conflict marks a split between two parts of the personality: the part that remains a child, full of exuberance and a desire to test new powers, and the part that is becoming an adult, constantly examining the propriety of motives and actions."

Stage 4: Industry vs. Inferiority

This stage in Erikson's theory states that this stage occurs when the child is around 6 years old to about when puberty hits. This stage is all about learning skills about/from their culture. If they fail to do so, then they will face feeling incompetent/less intelligent than their peers.
The child of the parent I interviewed just turned 5, so she has yet to reach this stage in development. An example would be if an art teacher praises a student for creating art that was appropriate for the lesson they were learning.
Because the mother is very down to earth and she pays attention to her and her husbands culture, I believe the child will not feel the inferior part of this stage. If anything, because the child is biracial, she may feel like she doesn't fit into a specific group amongst her peers, possibly feeling inferior in that aspect.

"If children are unable to obtain the praise of others or lack motivation and self-esteem, they may develop a feeling of low self-worth and thus develop a sense of inferiority. This is problematic because during middle childhood, children must learn skills valued in their society."

Stage 5: Identity vs. Identity Confusion

This stage of Erikson's theory occurs when the child is in the stages of puberty to young adulthood. It's when the child feels a sense of self and they are "finding themself". The question of who they really are comes up during this stage. Or... They will become confused about their identity.
I believe that the child will easily develop a sense of identity because she is already a very determined little girl. But, as stated before, she's biracial, so she might try balancing her two different races and may cause her to become confused about who she really is. But with time, I believe she will figure it out.

"The effort to make sense of the self is part of a healthy process that builds on the achievements of earlier stages—on trust, autonomy, initiative, and industry—and lays the groundwork for coping with the challenges of adult life."

Stage 6: Intimacy vs. Isolation

Erikson's theory states that this stage will occur during young adulthood. It's where the human searches for relationships/commitments within those relationships. If the human fails to make commitments, they could potentially suffer from isolationism or even self-absorption.
The child just turned 5 years old, so I think that is too soon to tell the outcome of this stage. If the child is able to develop intimacy, she'll be able to open up to people, which is what I'm hoping the outcome is. Her parents are very supportive when it comes to her talking about how she feels, so I'm hoping this stays the same when she gets to this point in development. If the child doesn't develop intimacy, she may become closed off and may develop trust issues.

"Earlier studies described young women as more competent at intimacy than men and suggested intimacy was more closely related to identity formation for women than men."

According to Erikson's theory, this stage occurs during middle adulthood. During this stage, the human becomes concerned about being responsible of guiding/teaching the next coming generation. If this does not occur., the person will feel a sense of personal impoverishment.
The child of the parent I interviewed is 5, so it's very difficult to predict the outcome of this stage. And example of this stage would be having children to continue the family and to teach new generations life skills that the human has learned along the way.

According to Erikson's theory, this is the final stage of development and occurs when the adult is in their late adulthood life. During this stage, the adult feels a sense of acceptance with their life and how it was lived and accept death, or they become sad and regretful towards the life they lived and they wish to relive it over again.
As for the child of the parent I interviewed, I really hope that she lives her life to the fullest and doesn't have any regrets.
