Today we learned about all the different terms of understanding the basics of how to use a camera as well as understanding how to use it for 30 minutes using different settings to different areas of light.
Aperture - shutters of different sizes e.g f/2, f/2,8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16. The higher the f number the smaller the aperture = less light and the smaller the aperture is the larger of and more light.
Depth of Field - Greater Depth of Field/Shallow Depth of field, when its focused on one point of in the photo it is a shallow depth of field (Large aperture e.g f.8) when the whole photo has been focused on it is a greater depth of field (smaller aperture e.g f22). Shutter speed is then measured in seconds and fraction of seconds it is also the amount of time the shutter is open for e.g 1/4 lets more light in, 1/8, 1/16, 1/500 (less light is let in). 1 second is twice as long as 1/2, 1/4 second is twice as fast as 1/2. ISO Is the sensitivity of the image sensor or film to light. A high ISO (E.G ISO 800= more sensitivity to light), low ISO (e.g ISO 100) = Less sensitivity. A high ISO is good for areas that have low light however it can add digital noise to the image. When you combine aperture and shutter speed you also need to consider the following: If you speed up your shutter speed one stop from 1/125th to 1/250th you will be letting half as much light into the camera. To allow balance you need to increase one stop e.g f16 to f11, you also need to remember the smaller the "f-stop" the larger the diameter of aperture. Composition is the combining of distinct parts or elements and using it to form a whole. Rule of Thirds - is where you imagine a picture is broken down into thirds both horizontally and vertically so its separated into 9 parts. the middle boxes are considered to be the main point of view and is often used to picture portraits because it is known for the best area to take them and capture the perfect portrait

Today we had to go around and take pictures of anything to do with a community within the college. This picture was taken at the smoking shelter. I thought this was a good picture to take because many people come to the smoking shelter during lunch and break, this is the place where people come to take a break, unwind and chat with their friends.

I took this picture in the school canteen, this is the place where people come to eat and buy food or even to pick up a quick snack on their break or lunch. This is also a good spot for friends and other groups of people to chat to their friends and a good meet up place

I took this picture of the people who study sports within the college. I thought this is a good one because they're in a middle of a lesson which makes it a great example because you need teamwork and the help of your friends when it comes to sports, especially football

I took this picture near the smoking shelter, as you can see it may be one person however she is on her phone most likely talking to her friends (however you want to interpret a picture). I took this picture because we're all in a community no matter if you're on your own, we all go to this college.

I took this picture outside of our block where we study. It may just be a whole parking lot of cars however it genuinely shows the many people who come to college, Furthermore, even if most of us come by bus at a young age, there are also adults who come here, some are obviously teachers,all these people are also part of this community we are in.

19/11/2018 Individuality - // We learnt how to double exposure an image which is overlaying and blending two or more images together. We used the polyganol lasso tool to cut around the flower image first copied and pasted it onto a blank background. We went on the second image and you had to select the whole image and copy and pasted it into the image except we used "paste special" in the edit menu. I then played with the opacity of both layers used. I wanted the texture of the flower to show so I used 100% on the first layer and used 50% for the second layer.

26/11/2018 UNITY, Studio lighting- 1)Hard Light - well defined shadow 2)Soft Light - soft edged shadow 3)Side Light - enhances texture and volume 4)Front Light - minimizes texture and volume 5)Split Lighting - produces a sense of drama onto portrait e.g on the face. 6)Butterfly Lighting - The key area of the light is shone directly onto the face which creates a shadow under the nose which looks like a butterfly. 7)Ambient Lighting - is just general lighting and it is seen as the "base". 8)Light Modifier - Is equipment used on a shoot that is used to change the lighting to the goal of the shoot. 9)Light Meter - it is used to measure the intensity of the light and its used to briefly show the exposure when taking a photograph

These are the only pictures that I have taken. I think these relate to unity because it shows our college cards and we come into college to unite with our friends not only to just come in for our courses.

I like these photos because I put the lighting boxes where I wanted to and I put one near Rhianna (first left) and one on Kiera (right). I did this because I wanted to balance it out and capture everyone other than it straight in the middle. The only negative thing about this is the people in the shoot wasn't ready but that is expected when you're using flash on a camera.

10/12/2018 - Since I wasn't here the week before, I had to go out and collect some photos for a photoshoot type project and pick between the 3 themes we had such as individuality, unity and community. I decided to go with individuality. This edit is based on everyone as an individual, Jack is part of the LGBTQ community so I thought it would be perfect because it represents him as an individual and not only that, he is showing his quirky self. The top middle picture (rings), I took this picture because he likes rings and he collects them and he always stood out because of them so it shows him as an individual. Left picture shows individuality because obviously, she isn't a mannequin and she has her own style which is often dark and 'grunge' like however colourful as it shows with the green in the picture. Bottom middle are my shoes I picked to take a photo of them because it shows who I am, I always wear Air Force 1s and I have them in different colours, they're comfy so I think this shows who I am as I like to be comfortable however appropriate.

As I was taking these pictures, some of them turned out to be dark which was my fault with the camera, however it inspired me to do a dark theme and have that pop of colour (our lanyards really helped with this). I positioned the darker (e.g grey-toned) colours in the middle and the colours with that pop of colour around the edge. On all pictures I edited the brightness and exposure to give them the 'dull' atmosphere and I didn't do anything fancy with the editing, I added grain to it at various levels. I added grain by going to filter > Noise > Add Noise and I picked the amount of grain I wanted, effect and colour. For "Distribution" I picked Gaussian which I think has more texture than the "Uniform" which appears to be more softer. By default, the grain has different colours in it such as red, blue etc like a old film, however you can change it to black and white by picking "Monochromatic" at the bottom
