What were your early experiences in math like? How did that change over time?

In elementary school, I wasn't a bad student in math, reading was more so my issue and I remember having to go to summer camp for reading, so they stuck me in math too. I really enjoyed being at the top of that camp and helping others. In middle and early high school, I did ok - probably an average students as I began to gravitate towards social studies. In 11th grade Trig, I had an absolutely awesome teacher that had a wonderful, personal story about hot math saved his life. He was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War and during his intake interview he snuck a peek at the recruiters folder and learned they were looking for a statistician who would be located state side. When the interview continued he mentioned loving numbers and keeping stats on various things throughout his life. He was placed with that assignment even though math was not his strong suit. He truly fell in love with math and even though retired from secondary math he still teaches a few courses at the local community college. I found that story so inspirational and regained my love of math in high school and then college. I still became a social studies teacher but feel confident in most of the math I need to do on a day to day basis.

I like math, I see so many applications for it on a day to day basis. I am truly intrigued with the connection of logic and math. The algorithms that are developed to predict certain outcomes including the intersection with the social sciences is fascinating to me.
