Castle is starting to change his mind about track and is becoming his thing now, instead of basketball. he is even proud to tell Mr.charles about and is bragging that he is in such a good team. For example, "Yep. I got a dinner thing I'm going to tonight. For my track team." I said all proud" (Reynolds 114). this demonstrates that Castle is bragging and proud that he is in a team like this one , that takes him out on fancy dinners.

The author describes Sunny's neighborhood has big and rich-looking. On the other hand, Castle's is messy, has trash all over the ground, and isn't a place anybody would really want to live at. According to the text, "Where the houses have yards from the front and the back" (Reynolds 119). this illustrates that the area is a rich place because people have yards on both sides of their houses, which is not something you would see in a poor neighborhood.

Castle begins to change in chapter 7. He changes because he is starting to care less about basketball and more about track. Unlike most days, when Castle goes to the basketball court to watch people play, he goes to the track to see if anybody was there running before he went to watch people play basketball. Another piece of evidence that shows that he is more focused on track than basketball is when he cut up his shoes. This shows that he is more interested in track than basketball. It shows this because hightops are good for basketball, but not as good for track. In this scenario, Castle had to choose between track and basketball and he chose track.

The author explains how nice and clean and big Sunny's neighborhood is. He also explains that Castle's neighborhood is always dirty. He does this when Castle says that he calls him the "neighborhood sweeper" but that the neighborhood is always dirty. He also contrasts Sunny to other kids that are wealthy like him. he says that he is nice and welcoming, unlike some other kids that are just as wealthy as he is. This helps you understand how poor Castle really is by comparing his neighborhood to Sunny's neighborhood.

My favorite character so far is Mr. Charles. He is my favorite character because he is very nice and caring towards caste. He is like a father figure towards Castle. One example of Mr. Charles being caring towards Castle is when Castle is being made fun of. He tells Castle that everybody gets made fun of and that he gets made fun of all the time. That is why Mr. Charles is my favorite character in the story so far.

In addition, on the basketball court, there are many fights that break out unlike track. The track team is a more friendly environment to Castle than the basketball court. A guy I didn't know. And that guy pushed Sicko back. And then pop got into it. And then Big James. Then a big James’s girl. Then some other girl. And a junkie started howling like a wolf. And then I was out." (Reynolds, 117). This proves that because Castle saw the violence going on during the game, he thought he should get out of there immediately; thinks basketball is a violent sport.

When Ghost first joined the track team, he said that he would never consider it being his main sport. He said that he would only do it so his mom knew where is was after school and to make him better at basketball. After chapter 6 when Lu complimented Ghost, Ghost started to actually like the sport track and actually wanted to do that as his main sport. Even though stealing is wrong, he finally felt that he was part of a team and now having a competition against them.

My favorite character is Coach because he is very dynamic. He can be strict and tough for one second, and caring and thoughtful the next. For example, how he treated his runners when Ghost first saw them on the track. In the text, the author states, "Listen up,' he said. 'If you are on this track, you have either already been a part of the Defenders, or you have been recruited to be a part of the Defenders.’ He was talking to them like they had just joined the army or something. " (Reynolds, 10). This proves how strict and tough Coach can be. But Coach can also be caring and thoughtful, for example, when he took the newbies out to dinner, even though he doesn't have a lot of money, and he lets them have a day off. In the text, the author states, "The other thing about Friday, which I didn't know until Thursday, is that Coach gives everybody the day off. No practice. And then, of course, since this was the first Friday of the season, Coach was taking the newbies out for dinner. " (Reynolds, 111). This proves how Coach is caring and thoughtful.

My favorite character so far is coach. He is my favorite character so far because there are two sides of him and there is always more to learn about him as I keep reading the book. The two sides of coach is his tough side. His tough side is when he is coaching the track team. His other side is his understanding side. Coach has been very understanding to Ghost's mistakes, and has been able to take care of him along the way. An inference that I have been making is that as the book goes on I think Coach will become more of a father figure to Ghost.

My favorite. character so far in the book is Ghost. He is constantly maturing and becoming more compassionate throughout the story. In the beginning of the book, Ghost was closed off, watching the people in the gym from a far and telling people he will become a great basketball player, though he never played the sport. As Ghost becomes a member of the track team, he begins to understand the importance of having relationships and trusting others. He maturity can be seen when Brandon returns to school after being suspended and Ghost feels badly for him.

As the reader keeps reading chapter seven you can see Ghost/Castle get close to track and starts to enjoy it. He also is able to find out the meaning and why everyone els in his team are doing it.

Castles attitude about track changes because he used to think in the beginning that track wasn't a real sport, and that he basketball was better, but now he is proud of the team he is on.
