It is a greenscreen or a blue screen, that they have used to create a different background.

GreenDay - Holiday

Greenday uses a green screen in this video to represent them going on a road trip though cities and down different roads. It is a cheaper way to show them going through places without having to pay for permission and shutting places off to film. Greenday made the car move throughout the music video, this was so they looked like the car was actually moving.

Camera angles are used to show different meanings, low camera will signify power and high will mean weak. They are also used to have a different view of something to make a video more interesting. They use high angle shots, to give a long view of something and to make something more visible. Using different angle is good because it makes the audience stay interested and connected to the video.

Blink 182 - Rockshow

In this music video blink 182 use loads of different camera angles, to signify power and other elements. When the band are playing the have low angle shots of the band this shows their power. They also have different angles and mid shots of the blink van. They have a long shot of them dropping a car, this is good because we get a big picture of the car falling. There are so many different shots used this is good because it makes it interesting.

It can make a video look continuous and make it interesting.

The View - Same Jeans

In this music video the camera movement is used to show things that where not on screen at one point, they use tracking to follow the singer saying vocals whilst walking and throughout him singing they pan the camera to show you different things. This is techniques used in most videos this is because it makes people excited to see what is going to happen in the next shot. Using this is a good way to make people stay focused on the music video.

The talk about how the rich are able to kill their wife and if they have the money they are able to get away with it. This is making people think about celebrities in a way of evil, making people think they can do anything.

Homage is when a music video takes parts from a film and put it into their music video, this may be because they are fans of the film and it has inspired them to make a video to show how much they like the film. A artist may recreate a scene or scenes from the film that are obvious references to the film, this may also make fans of a film watch their music video, promoting the artist. It will also promote the film to make people watch the film.

Lil Wayne - 6 Foot 7 Foot

Lil wayne does a homage of Inception, recreating memorable parts of the film like when the main character got pushed into the bath and when they are walking through the city. Using memorable moments makes people who are interested in the film want to watch the music video. He also uses inception becuase inception uses the same metaphors that he uses in his song. A homage to a film will make interest in the film increase and make interest in the music video increase.

Throughout the video he has remade parts of his old music videos into his new video, this is to give fans of Eminem a memory of what he has created.

Parodies are usually created to entertain people, they can be a music video recreated by a band to make a serious song into a funny song, or they can be a song that has copied the idea of a movie to create a music video with simular ideas. Bands or artists can create parodies to make them self known, they could recreate a song made by a big artist and make it their own, by doing this they will get hits and get bigger.

The Midnight Beasts - Tik Tok Parody

Tik Tok was a song created by Kesha, her video was a serious video made to entertain about going out and getting drunk. The Midnight beasts recreated it to make it about staying in and doing weird funny things to make people laugh. The Midnight Beasts changed all the lyrics to their own but made it fit to the same beat and tune as Tik Tok, this aloud them to make a video that people would think of when they thought of Kesha and her song Tik Tok. Parodies are a good way to promote a new upcoming band and get their name out there.

Narrative music videos are used to tell a story by having a plot that may link to the song or may be something the artist want to portray. They can be used to entertain or to educate, they can tell people about what may be happening in life and what is important, or they can just have a story that will entertain using a story. They can also be used to send messages to people to make them understand or just to make them feel a connecting with the artist, this could be by telling people about their past or telling people their hopes.

Eminem - headlights

Eminem created "headlights" to send a message to his mum that he is sorry for how he treated her, how sorry he is for making songs about his upbringing and telling a story of how his life was so bad when he was young. This narrative brings you closer to Eminem, using POV shot also makes this happen by making you feel the emotion of Eminem's mum and makes you feel like part of the video.

Interpretative videos are used to create music videos to make people engage with the video, by not having a clear plot. This makes us put bits together to make us make sense out of the video by think of why something is happening in the video.

RadioHead - Karma Police

The Video to Karma Police makes you Believe that the singer and the driver of the car are the Karma Police and the person running away from the car deserves Karma. Whenever the singer says the line "This is What You Get" the camera goes back to showing the man running away from the camera, this tries to make you wonder what has happened and why is he running, making you think of what may of happened. At the end of the video the man running away from the car sets the car on fire, this makes you wonder what may of happened for him deserve karma. Interpretative music videos are good to make people get involved in your video by making them think and understand what has happened.

Animation music videos can be used to entertain people in a funny and happy way as well as creating a interesting story that could be understood by lots of people. They could use stop motion animation to create a living thing by taking multiple snap-pits of one thing moving slowly to create movement. They can have cartoon animation to created a childish and happy feeling to the video, or can be something as simple as using lines.

Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know

The Arctic Monkeys Created "Do I Wonna Know" using lines that would vibrate with the voice of the singer, this is a very simple and easy technique to use to create a cheap and simple video that would also make people think. During the video they also change the lines into people, to make it less repetitive and more interesting, however they stayed with the beat of the song by placing tires down with the beat to stay in tone with the video.

In-concert and live footage are music videos that artist use to promote their self live. It is a cost effective way for them to produce a music video without having to think of a plot to the video, therefor making the budget for the video cheap, whilst it is a good way to earn money.

Blink 182 - Heart's All Gone

For example Blink 182 created a video for their song "Heart's All Gone", this song consists of a live performance put on by the band and before the show when they are setting up the performance, this shows the bands personalities and makes the band look interesting. To create this video the band would have had to put on a live performance, therefor earning money whilst creating the song and showing people who havent seen them live, what they are like live.

The Artists Image

In this music video the image we are given of Britney is of a school girl and friends who are all dancing and sexually dressed. In the video Britney is singing and dancing showing her talents and what she can do and how good she is.

Music itself

The music in the video is very explicit, the words in the video are talking about a boy and him hitting her, it is expression a relationship.

Fashion Trends

Thefashion used in the music video is very sexual and modern, the clothes used are school uniforms created to look sexual. This has changed a lot from the 40s where the woman and men where dress very nicely to show their class, whereas in the 90s the close are down to the scene and areas that they are.

Quality of Footage

The quality of the footage is much improved from the 80s, the technology has been upgraded to make film become more entertaining and interesting. The footage looks less graining and there is no lag in the footage making it look more professional.

Types of Shots

They use a variety of shots in the music video the main shot they use are establishing shots, these where face on long-shots of a whole group of people with Britney in the middle. They also used close ups shots of the face to show her singing, this also showed you what Britney was thinking. They used panning and tracking a lot to follow the action and a smooth way, this made it interesting and gave movement into the video.

Editing Techniques

They use slow cuts in this music to go with the pace of the song, when the song speeds up the cuts speed up. They use a swish motion to make the camera jump from one place to another this makes it look like continuous action. They cut to the beat throughout the song on every odd beat. This is good editing because it looks organised and in time with the song.

Special Effects

The special effects used in this video are small but they are effective. They use one special effect and that is to make the video look continuous by making the clips change in one steady motion so it doesn't look like the clip has changed.

Styles

The styles in this video are very poppy, they use bright colours and wear very young clothing to fit with the time and the audience they are aiming for, this will help will views for the music video and make the right people watch it.

Artist Image

The band are very punky they are wanting to look different and change the style of music. They have long curly messy hair and where big hats. They want to look scary and different making them look interesting.

Music Itself

The music in this video is a lot faster paced than in the other video, the music is changing in this video and they are creating a new era of music. They focus on the playing of their instruments and their sound more than their lyrics. This made them have a good sound that everyone will recognise.

Fashion Trends

The fashion in this video is very punky, they where top hats and have leather jackets on and dark clothing. Their hair styles are very punky, they have long curly hair that covers their face.

Quality of Footage

The footage in this music video is better quality than the 70s, there isn't that much grain and they quality has improved with the pace of the camera's. They have created the video in black and white for effect, by doing this that have made the video look older than what it is but with the quality of 80's footage.

Types of Shots

They use multiple shots in this music video, they use high and low angle shots throughout the music video to show power to the artists and to show body shots of them playing their instruments.

Editing Techniques

The editing in the video follows the pace of the song, when the song opens it is going very slow and the song is slow and quiet, as the song increases in speed the editing and cuts gets faster making the video flow more, the video cuts between the band and a story, they do this by cutting back and fourth to create a interesting story that people will follow.

Special Effects

They use special effect to make the video black and white and towards the end the make it coloured.

Styles

They have a very punky style, they want to be seen as different wearing black and having different hair to most artists.

The singing is very slow and happy we lots of different notes.

Fashion Trends

The fashion they are wearing is very hippy, they have big hair and moustaches. They have big glasses and flashy clothing with fur and different jewellery.

Quality of Footage

The quality of the footage hasn't change much from the 60's, it is still grainy but the colours have been more exposed in this video making it a brighter video.

Types of Shots

The shots used in this video are slower paced then in the 60's but it fits with the pace of the music.

Artist Image

The artist image is shown as a group of boys playing together, you see them as a bit of a rebel group of boys smoking. It is showing them as a popular band that everyone wants to see, showing them in a club with people trying to get in. They had moustaches and long hair that where very dark.

Music Itself

The music itself was very slow paced with a nice beat. The singing was very calm and went well with the beat. It fit the music video because it was a slow paced video with clips of the band

Fashion Trends

The clothes they are wearing are very out there and different for the time that they where around, they wore baggy colourful shirts, they had moustaches and long hair and mop tops.

Quality of Footage

The Quality of the video has improve a lot, there is now coloured videos that are clear and you are able to see. There is more movement in the video that is steady and they are able to make a faster paced video. The quality is still not high definition but it has improved since the 40s.

Types of Shots

There are a lot more shots in this music video, it doesn't just focus on the band it is also telling a story. There are close ups of the band but there are also shots of people in the street and people fighting. There are also close up shots of the band playing instruments. They use a lot of different shots to create a story that is interesting as well as showing the band perform.

Editing Techniques

The editing they use in this video is simple but effective, every time they change clip they cut the clip to the next one, they also use editing to make the video more interesting by putting different clips into one image making the image look like there is multiple people in one.

Special Effects

The special effects used in this one is when a person is being changed into different people in one person.

Styles

The styles follow the trends of the sixties, with moustaches and long bowl hair, they are a typical sixties band.

The purpose of creating a music video is to earn more money through one song. This is possible by increasing song and album sales. It will help increase sales of albums because it will show people the band and it will help people get interested in the band. Using a music video will make the song bigger by publishing the music video on tele. This will make people who don't listen to a artist or band get a insight into the band therefor making more sales. Blink did this with All the Small Things, they created a music video that got very popular and was all over kerrang and MTV, this helped them become even bigger and it is a song that is still listened to now. The extension of income was for the group, it helped them become bigger and helped them earn more money from this song and they sold the song to Jedward. This meant that Blink would get paid money for the jedward version. Blink 182 had this song on MTV all the time and the constant footage cemented their image as video stars. The video is also on youtube and has over 69 million views. All the small things has sold over 7 million copies worldwide on CD and Digital downloads.

Music Conventions in Hip Hop Videos

Different styles of music have different styles of music video, however they all have codes and conventions, these are used to construct meaning of the video. They are divided into two types, technical and symbolic. Technical is using equipment to convey meaning, Without me uses technical techniques by having loads o different shots through the video and using editing. The video is portrayed as a comic throughout having different types of shots and words popping on screen, this is a good use of editing because it tells us a story. Using words is useful because it is a simple way to keep the audience interested in the video. In every music video they use both technical and symbolic techniques, Eminem has done this by having lots of different mise-en-scene to keep the audience interested. The props he uses fits the style of the music video, what he wears is a super hero costume, this follows the theme of a comic book by taking samples of a comic and putting into his video by using a costume. The camera movement used is very fast and snappy they have stead shots that follow the action. This fits with the action because the artist is singing very fast, so the shots and movement have to keep in time to make the video look good. They also have lots of different shots in the music video, high and low shots, this is to show the power of someone, when Eminem is rapping it is a low angle shot of him this is to show that he is the main person in the video. They also use shots to create emotion, when he is going into hospital the have a close up to show how he is feeling. The pace of the video is fast, they do this by having multiple images at one time and cutting fast. The lighting used in the video is very dark and gloomy, this is showing that it is dangerous and showing Eminem as danger. The props used are used to make the video like a comic, they have batman and robin outfits, this is to make people see what they are trying to portray. This is good because people know batman and robin and people will understand why they are doing this and what they are doing.

Music Conventions in Indie/Rock Videos

In rock videos they use technical techniques in similar ways to Hip Hop videos, however the style of music and the way it is presentenced means that the techniques used will look different. For example they used a low angle shot of the band, this will make them look more powerful in Hip Hop, in rock it is the same it will make them look more powerful, however we only see little snippets of these shots in rock, this is showing that the pace of the music in rock is a lot faster than in hip hop as well as making the power of the group not as big. they use a variety of different shots to show the emotions of the band members, however in this music video they are show expressions of people in the music video not as much the band. In the video they show close ups of the band to show what the singer is playing, they show close ups of the instruments to add effect. Camera movement is used to make the video more interesting, this is by making it look faster whilst having steady shots. They also use panning shots to show different view of the band. They use crane shots to make sure they have a steady camera and are able to film from a high angle. They editing in this music video is used to make the video go along with the song, they had to make sure they got the time right with the instruments to make it like they are playing it, this looks good because it makes people feel like they are watching them. They use slow motion for a funny look, slowing things down that people will find funny. They also use different paces of cutting to fit the speed of the music, this is used to make people follow what is happening in the music video. They use lighting to make the video feel friendly, this is because they want people to watch the video and have a laugh, doing this will make people find it funny and not get bored. The costumes used are there to make people look and find interesting, they have a style of dressing that is different with piercings and long hair.

Music Conventions in Pop Videos

In Pop videos technical techniques are used to make a happy atmosphere and to show movement. In this music video they use all sorts of different shots. They use close ups of legs, this is to express the people dancing and running and to give people a sense of excitement. They also us close ups of peoples faces to show expression and to show the lyrics of the song being sung, this is a technique created to make people feel like they are involved in the video and to make people believe the artist is singing. they use birds eye view shots to set the scene and they use this shot at the end to show the logo of the album in lights. They have also used mid shots to show groups of people running, this makes the video feel fast and intense. They use shots that set the location of the music video, they have shots that focus on the surroundings making people look at where they are. They use lots different camera movements, they use tracking shots to show movement of a car driving fast, this is a steady and professional way of making the video look good. they also use crane shots to have high angle shots of the people, this sets the scene of where they are whilst adding effects of the lights. Editing is very important in this music video, they use a lot of slow motion, this is to add enthuses on words and make them stand out as important moments. They also use editing to create a flier looking shot throughout the video, this made the video have a happy feel as well as following the idea of the song, it made the video more interesting and made people focus on specific things such as lyrics and dancing. In this music video they focus a lot on the Mise-en-scene, this is to establish a interesting music video that people can follow without having to have a story. The lighting use is mainly natural lighting however it has been ethicised using editing, making the colours look bright. This sets the scene well for a pop video by having a different look to the video. The sound used is only the sound of the vocals and music, this is because they don't want the music not to be heard. The pros and costumes used are different to the rock video, this is because the clothes they are wearing are fashionable, making people want to wear these clothes and copy what they are wearing. All of the genres have similar parts to their music videos, but they also have differences, this is because they are trying to hit different audiences, rock is trying to get people who are different and pop is trying to have a fashion statement and aim for a big group of people of that time.
